Now let's take a look at the so called Venlo Incident.
At the so-called Venlo incident , two officers of the British Secret Intelligence Service were transferred to Germany on November 9, 1939 at the German-Dutch border near Venlo . According to official announcement this happened in an attempted border crossing of the two persons Major Richard Henry Stevens and Captain Sigismund Payne Best . Both were leaders of two British intelligence organizations based in The Hague and primarily responsible for espionage in Germany. The British government reported that the men were allegedly "kidnapped". The fact is, however, that at the said point the border was very complex/unclear and that it could have been only a few centimeters of Dutch territory, especially since no Dutch official, apparently assuming that the arrest had already taken place on German territory, intervened.
