I personally think he did. I've always felt Germans and Japanese were very similar in mannerisms and even in culture. Especially warrior culture. Death before dishonor. In National Socialist ideology, death was preferable to defeat. Just like the Samurai felt. The Germanic Tribes held honor above all else as well. So I think he committed suicide and in his mind this was the honorable thing to do, to die in Berlin, in his nation, leading to the end. I do not feel he escaped. He lived and died for Germany.

I suppose in certain cases he was right. Hitler was without a doubt a political mastermind and military genius.
However his breaking of treaties, genocide of 6 million jews (yes it did happen), and views of establishing a 1000 year empire by invading neighboring countries is what doomed him.
If he did not attempt to build an empire beyond Germany’s historical boarders and was less authoritarian he probably would have actually made it and established a reich that would have lasted to this day.
