Dylan can be split between the early Acoustic years and the later "electric" years. He kind of lost his edge when he found Christianity.
Artistically, he's more or less a Greenwich Village folk art icon who came out of the last real art culture of "Bohemian" nature. It more or less included beatniks, hippies and pop art styles.
You can love it or hate it. You won't get any actual information from his art. His style tends to have meaning for those who are in the know.
