actually the whole point of earthquake monitoring besides tracking nuclear explosions is to better predict future quakes by measuring plate movements, even the small ones, and running "ai" over the patterns.
you can also buy a Raspberry Pie kit called a Raspberry Shake, a personal seismogram to record eq's. They have a sensor map of all the people who have them in Cali. If the little triangles go red, kiss your ass goodbye.

I live in Southern California, experienced the 1994 Northridge quake. The quake on July 4th and 5th, the clouds in the sky were different, the weather was different. The weather preceding the recent quake was off for the time of year, I was feeling nauseous and dizzy the day before, my dog was even acting more subdued. I do not believe that a large quake is less than 24 hours away based upon my experiences.

there was a big solar eclipse right before the quake. it was only visible in the southern hemisphere like peru/chile but i think it would effect fault lines all over.
