Start with Plato/Socrates, some medieval Christian theology/political theory like Hobbes and Augustine. Some ancient Greek history is great to know too- stuff that happened back then is happening again today. Herodotus is either a riot or a slog to read because he keeps going on insane tangents and never gets to the point. He talks about how Egyptians lick the balls of cows and shit. Thucydides tells it like it happened.
Martin Luther is unironically hilarious too- goes on for pages lambasting himself in an absurd way. After that you can skip the shitty Enlightenment Liberalists because you've been raised in a culture based around their ideas already. Locke, Descartes, etc. are interesting if you really want but you've heard the misunderstood meme lines that have informed modern society already. Definitely read Rousseau because he's literally Jow Forums.
Once you understand what Capitalism and Liberalism really are, and the Enlightenment to some degree, then you should read anti-Liberals and critics of the Enlightenment like Karl Marx and Carl Schmitt (literal member of the National Socialist German Worker's Party). Yes, Marx was a critic of enlightenment values and liberalism. He'd gas the neoliberals and antifaniggers today in a heartbeat. He thought human rights in a capitalist system were bullshit, etc. In any case, you have to understand Marx to understand the current age. You can skip the Communist Manifesto because it's shit. Read the German Ideology instead- it's more readable than Das Kapital and has much more detail and less irrelevant shit than the Manifesto.

He called it pagan Caesarism probably because he's Catholic and Catholics have long mistrusted pagan Rome, of which Caesar is arguably its most famous icon. I can't be sure of that though.
