1. It reminds everyone we have foreign born congresswomen in Congress. 2. They have to either praise America and be hypocrits, or they can double-down or double down on anti-american rhetoric.
Both of these points potentially alienates them from moderates and makes them vulnerable to primary challenges. Plus, he loses almost no votes with this, because the offended were not voting for him anyway. He might convince some on fence moderates that the Dems are truly unhinged, and it's another day the news cycle has to talk about Trump.

Rural Dems are so different from Urban Dems that this may actually be the beginning of a split of that party. We must do whatever possible to help that happen. They could faction off to two separate parties leaving the conservative side with power for a very long time. I am one that's been waiting for the civil war to happen in my lifetime, but we may actually have an opportunity to help push it within a single party and it not be D vs R as I once thought. It could very well end up just being Rural vs Urban Dems against themselves. They just need some help with the gasoline and matches.
