(((aircraft carriers)))

why is this useless shit so fucking overrated?

Battleships are way cooler than any floating barge you can name

they're great for the kind of conflicts america is realistically going to be involved in.
also this belongs on Jow Forums

Interesting how the guaranteers of US supremacy has been memed against so hard recently. I wonder who could be behind this?

It’s useful for naval invasions or island invasions for air support. Maybe some sea battles too.
You can use them for air missions in foreign lands, but we practically have an air base everywhere. Airbases can be blocked by countries they reside in so probably best to have some carriers around.

Because they look cool

Attached: shokaku04.jpg (800x500, 96K)

I served on 2 aircraft carriers. The amount of personnel, supplies, and waste these things need just to have planes close to a country is ridiculous

It will only be useless until projected shielding becomes a thing, which, they've probably been working on for years. If there is no defense against hypersonic weaponry, then yes, they are utterly fucking useless. A good way to send billions worth of equipment and 10s of thousands of hands to the bottom of the ocean.

They aren’t even big enough to fit a football stadium on

Ty

us markwting.they know they are shit so they try to boast there use in hope some idiots belive it.

evry diesel sub and his mom can sink that shit and escords in minuts.

once the risk/reward ratio becomes too skewed, alternatives will begin to appear.

mark my words: drone motherships are going to become a real thing in our lifetime

They are for force projection against weak opponents. A-tier enemies with cruise missiles etc will nullify them.

>overated
it is perfect for the wars America is and will be involved in

If we ever fight a country that has the capabilities to sink a carrier, it will go nuclear before they get the chance

true, once we enter a war in which our carriers become vulnerable to attack, we are probably going to have worse problems.

Attached: 1955 flying airfield concept.jpg (700x326, 32K)

This
They don't want us to have cool battleships.

battleship guns have a range of about 20 miles and aren't particularly accurate. most surface to surface missiles have ranges far exceeding that. their time has come and gone. rip.

I think its marketing for the new top gun movie. It's the only thing that makes sense. US naval supremacy is inarguable. If it were the Russians, making these threads would only serve to demoralize them, as I make it a point to post a reminder in every one that 14 of their very best naval officers died because Putin is giving the wealth of his nation to his criminal friends instead of maintaining it's proud military. No, I think it's top gun marketing. DANGA ZONE!

Aircraft carriers are good against 2nd tier appoints.

In a conflict against tougher adversaries. First wave attack will likely come from space and submarine launched rockets.

Very much this.

Attached: 20190619_162421.jpg (1693x1080, 343K)

Ha ha. One aircraft carrier holds enough firepower to level any state or small country in the world and has a range of 1500 miles.
>useless
Supreme keks, ignorantanon.

They proved their worthlessness during WW2. For the same amount of armaments on a battleship, you could split that among 3 destroyers and if you lose a destroyer, it isn't the same magnitude of loss in tonnage and sailors. Plus 3 destroyers are way more maneuverable than a single giant battleship.

Aesthetic-wise, a destroyer is no way comparable to a battleship

Attached: AS20160507001874_comm.jpg (640x294, 71K)

Completely agree. It's just that the age has passed them by.

> implying the government tries to be rational and pragmatic about this
HUEHUEHUEHUEHUE

>most surface to surface missiles have ranges far exceeding that
Then they should make giant floating missile platforms instead of giant floating gun platforms.

Money would be better spent on Submarines that can do that.

Because muh big floating star spangled dik, that’s why kraut

Sexiest things to ever float

But subs are so smol, their missile capacity would be puny compared to a battleship-scale missile platform. Something like that could flatten small countries with a single salvo.

Look I know it's impractical but it would be so COOL

missile ships ARE the future though

t-they do user.

I didn't say they would be proactive about it, but when the evidence becomes overwhelming they will be forced to change.

if you'll note my pictures, we were already investigating such designs in the 1950s. it's not like it's some magical far-off concept that nobody has ever thought of.

Attached: Kirov-class battlecruiser.jpg (2914x1838, 1.4M)

I wouldn’t say they are obsolete yet, they are basically floating air bases so if your airbases in a portion of the world are incapacitated they can serve as a backup. Eventually they will become obsolete as advancements in stealth and unmanned drones become more popular. It’s already begun there were unmanned drones launching out of airbases in Italy, Germany, England dropping bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan, as these drones become faster, bigger and able to drop more ordnance they will eventually push the carriers to a more support role. While I agree the battleship is one hell of a ship ( I had the honor of serving on the USS Wisconsin as a fresh out of boot camp sailor in the early 90’s) there Day is long over never to return.

>recovery bay
lol how the fuck is that supposed to work?

yeah like that, BUT BIGGER

Anyone have the drawing of the Chad Nimitz carrier making fun of the Beta British ramp carrier?

Battleships are ugly as shit.
Navy spergs are no better than trainfags

They look cool when they don’t have ramps on them

Your meme state never built one in the first place, cope harder faggot
And train fags are cancer

One day we will have space battleships.

>implying this is my real flag
lmao

Until you can blow fire out of your ass as big as a house, displace water 2 stories down as you do it, and kill any crew still on the deck, then you can have an opinion

>I’m pretending to be retarded
Checks out

yes

Pls leave 46mm guns on ;__;
Just say it’s for cool special effects, psychological warfare, and land bombardment purposes

>useless
aircraft carrier fleets are basically real world death stars. strategically placed around the world, they allow us to project our force literally anywhere we want to. coupled with our strategically placed military bases and black ops space weapons, we have complete dominion over the whole planet. we can literally destroy anything, anywhere on the planet, almost instantaneously.
>useless

Attached: 1557327655294.gif (250x355, 1.34M)

yaeh lol and all but that's by definition "putting all your eggs in one basket"

Since you're obviously some kind of nerd i'll put it in terms you can understand. The Empire puts all their eggs in one basket with giant capital ships and superweapons while the rebels invest in "small craft of incredible power and speed... the starfighters" because one proton torpedo is more damaging than a turbolaser hit, and far more versatile, since the launching platform can avoid being hit at all.
youtube.com/watch?v=EvZdDqGfYmE

>basically if the enemy can take out most of your missile launching capacity with one good hit, what was the point?

>mark my words: drone motherships are going to become a real thing in our lifetime

I know I know, like I said it's impractical, but it I challenge you to deny the fact that it would be really fucking dope

Attached: 1550306026410.jpg (662x670, 234K)

>useless shit so fucking overrated
made for hit and run tactics with jets, a small portable airbase built for bombing runs, also the planet is covered 70% in water so you can take it almost anywhere

When you setup an airbase on the ground it has to be in a country and can be attacked, with an aircraft carrier you can do your bombing runs then dip, think of it as a pit-stop for jets like race cars

Aircraft carriers are for (((projecting power))) onto shithole countries not fighting a top tier modern war.

i meant combat ones but yea

Attached: USS Macon.jpg (1600x1066, 543K)

Boats are Awsome, stfu

>flag

are your conjecture based questions

USELESS??

It's always a good day when I can post this.

Attached: Carriers.png (1822x846, 978K)

The amount of suppressed, ignored or sabotaged technology is enormous. The government isn't trying to win wars defending freedom and all that Hollywood crap. It's military keyenesianism and being gay prostitutes for the Kosher Nostra. See the F-35 fiasco.

>i meant combat ones but yea

he thinks amazon's drone research is solely commercial. yikes and bluepilled

There seems to be a sense that these things are becoming more and more vulnerable.

If they become unable to withstand these newer missile systems... they essentially are protected only by the fear that sinking them will trigger nuclear attack.

Basically, you will have the US saying... let our planes attack you... if you try to stop them, you get the nuclear smackdown. It’s actually a danger because the conventional war can quickly go nuclear now. The US has tactical nukes, and they *will* use them... I read that they actually used Nukes in Iraq/Afghanistan, but they hid them under the radar by keeping media out and saying they were MOABs...

One word; submarines

Battleships are also next to useless thanks to aircraft. Look at WWII, a significant amount of battleships were destroyed by aircraft rather than other battleships.
>Bismark - Disabled by aircraft which lead to destruction
>Turpitz - Damaged beyond repair by aircraft
Yamato - destroyed by aircraft
Musashi - destroyed by torpedos launched by aircraft
Arizona - destroyed by aircraft
See a pattern yet?

Hell yeah brother!

Attached: 62835F48-75E8-4027-9226-2E85CDE663B4.jpg (326x287, 17K)

because it's a display of threat to the whole world, therefore it's worth it

/s

star destroyers are absolutely fucking dope, sure.

It is really powerful against guerrillas and poor countries. And useless against modern ones. It is all or nothing.

>It's always a good day when I can post this.

retards think our aircraft carriers are just sitting out there all by themselves and not surrounded by a carrier strike fleet.

Attached: carrierstrikegroup.jpg (790x513, 87K)

FUCK YOU ITS A BOAT THAT LAUNCHES FUCKING PLANES WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR PROBLEM YOU FAGGOT WHAT THE FUCK DOES YOUR BOAT DO?? DOES IT LAUNCH PLANES??? NO IT DOESNT FUCK YOU

I imagine something like Knight Rider, where he drives the car into the trailer but the plane equalivent. Or like the space capsule hijack scene from "you only live twice"

This. My grand uncle was demolitions on the Iowa until he became the naval spotter for the thunder guns. He was used like 6 times in all of Vietnam because people aren’t fucking retarded after suffering a barrage from Mo or Iowa. He was used for two naval landings which the Vietcong never opposed again and 4 assistance barrages when they didn’t realize She could hurl a one ton shell 20 miles inland.
Meanwhile Iowa needed a destroyer group, a minesweeper group, a marine detachment for saboteurs and a shitload of riverboats for screening duty.
Tomahawks made them redundant on top of their primary redundancy. That being said Vietcong still managed to suicid a raft full of dynamite into her hull and barely scratched the paint, as she was built to duel Musashi and the Tirpitz/Bismarck.

>One word; submarines

carrier strike fleets have submarines too, and the USA has the best submarines, with better radar, and anti torpedo torpedos. the only way russian submarines post any threat to US battlegroups is via the radiation from their reactors failing. we are also about to roll out fleets of anti-submarine underwater drones, something no other nation is even close to.

>
>Battleships are also next to useless thanks to aircraft.

what if, what if, we developed a boat, that shoots planes at other boats!!!!!!!!!!!!! o wait

Attached: emmarobertsfacepalm.gif (244x168, 578K)

oh yeah the f35 sucks sure but that doesn't mean that every country is going to be magically banned from designing flying carriers.

speaking of the F35, which is a Lockheed design, here is another Lockheed design for... you guessed it: an air carrier. If your argument is that defense cronyism means big contractors will shut down smaller innovators, how do you explain when the big contractors propose such designs?

Attached: lockheed carrier3.png (2048x2048, 1.27M)

SPBP

>the USA has the best submarines
Not true

They're good if you want to bully countries that have no way of attacking anything you have.

They’re essentially bait. But if any country dares to attack one, the U.S. will destroy the whole country and keep all their stuff. WW2 set the precedent that if a nation attacks the United States, we will go all the way until unconditional surrender. But there are exceptions.

Attached: lockheed carrier4.png (2048x2048, 1.75M)

What was their AA loadout and were they with an escort? Where do you think those planes came from btw?

>Since you're obviously some kind of nerd i'll put it in terms you can understand. The Empire puts all their eggs in one basket with giant capital ships and superweapons while the rebels invest in "small craft of incredible power and speed... the starfighters" because one proton torpedo is more damaging than a turbolaser hit, and far more versatile, since the launching platform can avoid being hit at all.

except the empire had 25,000+ star destroyers and a over dozen super star destroyers. so if by 'all their eggs in one basket' you mean 2000 dozen egs, a dozen SUPER LARGE eggs, and one MOTHER FUCKING GIANT egg with plans to build more MOTHER FUCKING GIANT eggs, then sure.

the empire failed because the emperor put himself on the mother fucking giant test egg to taunt the rebels. not because they didnt have enough eggs. so unless you were referring to sith lords as eggs, and not star destroyers as eggs, your analogy is flawed.

Attached: lockheed carrier1.png (2048x2048, 1.84M)

Surely that thing could only land and take off in a very limited number of airfields

This exactly

listen, back in the days of swccg i used to play a star destroyer swarm deck, so believe me when i say I get it.
but actually i was referring to the death stars housing the majority of their most skilled and highly trained officers. Remember the folly of the luftwaffe after they lost all their best officers and had to start sending raw recruits up into the air.

Attached: lockheed carrier2.png (2048x2048, 1.43M)

It doesn't land. It docks in a larger carrier to resupply. And before you ask, that carrier doesn't land either.

yes it was exquisitely impractical but the next design doesnt need to be so grandiose.

excellent kek

It's actually a giant submarine. What's above water is just for normies.
Deep carrier

Except when Israel murders dozens of Americans aboard the USS Liberty, they forgot to drop the nukes after that one.

Now that's some real shit

Attached: latest[1].png (1352x608, 1.52M)

Yamato was shanked by CV borne plens and it had fucking aa ammo for its main pipes
And so was Arizona and Musashi
Bismarck and Torpitz were too close to Britbongistan to warrant using CVs to shank them

baBBies became obsolete when some five'o'clocking faggot thought 'what if we started throwing, like, a metric fuckton of swordfishes at anything those bloody cunts send out to the high seas' in between his third and fourth dips of biscuit
and when forty fucks and twenty tonnes of wood can send seven hundred Boche and nine thousand tonnes of steel down to a Neptune's bday party you get yourself a really hot deal

>listen, back in the days of swccg i used to play a star destroyer swarm deck, so believe me when i say I get it.
based and redpilled>but actually i was referring to the death stars housing the majority of their most skilled and highly trained officers.
palpatine was a fag, we all know this, even pelleon and thrawn admitted as much but even with the loss of the death star and the fleet at endor the remaining imperial remnant pretty much held control of the galaxy for years. the new republic never ever fully destroyed them, and they eventually again became the dominant force in the galaxy under Jagged Fel, re-absorbing most of the old new republic's territory after the yuuzhan vong invasion and second galactic civil war. (in the NON-NU-WARS, *REAL* STAR WARS TIMELINE) and went on to build an even better, bigger fleet.

Attached: d7fki19-397d772c-fe44-49ba-989b-cc9d854d4181.png (2061x1936, 172K)

Not to mention the RIM-161 has already shot down objects with a closing speed of over mach 30 with pinpoint accuracy from 200 miles.

The carriers are safe.

Cheerleader tier marketing, instead put an undetectable underground tubing straw like pod delivery system importing intercontinentally and to the home (can also export trash and waste).

I imagine there are classified systems on at least U.S. carriers/ battle groups that allow them to survive attacks.
Never forget the Battle of 73 Easting where the U.S. used GPS, thermal vision and depleted uranium shells and armor (all either classified or not suspected) to defeat an enemy.
The U.S. is good at keeping secrets and typically doesn't reveal them until its time to use them.

Attached: 73 easting.png (369x869, 41K)

I used to fly an aircraft carrier back during the Korean war. I got all the medals

i gotta admit, i kinda dropped starwars halfway through the yuuzhan vong thing but yeah zahn is my man. stackpole close second.

Attached: star wars rape.gif (300x240, 622K)

Whether that be true or not, the US quite literally has more attack submarines than all other countries in the world have submarines of any sort combined.
