Super comfy thread
Very cool my dude
I don't have any images to share but have a bump!
I've got about 30 books on farming and self sufficiency and other related topics that I'm currently reading

Remember the best thing to do is to get into a trade and increase your skills in all aspects
Trades will train you in multiple skills and help you enormously

Yes, I agree if you are young a trade is the best option.
I'm an Aerospace engineer now though lmao.

Btw it's important to know that /ssg/ means the eventual building of white communities that rely on themselves. But becoming sufficient for ones self and family is important first.

I don't think ill ever own land. i wish i could live with some anons and start a little eco village

Another topic that I believe is very important to this subject is the building of houses and maybe community building also. Starting new communities will require the building of reliable and steardy structures

if any Anons have info on it please reply to this post with said info, thanks.

Thanks for getting this out there, OP

No problem. It's important we all strive to not rely on Jewish capitalism or Jewish communism.
Only rely on ourselves

good points in that vid
apathy and the "eh, im okay with how it is now" way of thinking is bad

So is it possible to set up a home aquaponic farm? It looks like you’d need a lot of experience in both fish and plants or money to get it working.

Can someone explain best way to go about planting trees? When, what conditions, where etc.

bump

Show me a aquaponics farm that is truly self-sufficient.

All setups so far require civilizational technology. If a system is reliant on spare-parts you can not realistically make yourself, it's not self-sufficient.

/out/ knows more about this, but plant in the spring or fall because the earth will have more water in it. keep the ground around it free and remember to water and support it with sticks/poles if it needs

stop shilling your honeypot everywhere faggot

Can't speak from experience (sadly) but it certainly should be possible. I've seen lots of small setups on youtube. What you have to watch out for (apparently) is that it takes a while for enough bacteria to develop to break down the ammonia your fish produce, so you can kill them accidentally before the system reaches equilibrium. Test your water, make sure it's aerated, and replace some of it if it gets too toxic for fishes.
Nitrogen cycle goes like this for aquaponic system:
>Fish excrete Ammonia(NH3) (toxic) -> Bacteria1 turn ammonia into Nitrate(NO3) (toxic) -> Bacteria2 turn Nitrate into Nitrite(NO2) (plant food!)
Best plants for system are leafy and not fruiting since these use mostly nitrogen to grow

Is there a good book that covers this topic in general? Obviously, specific books about specific topics give you the nitty gritty - but something that is just an overview of self sufficiency with some solid ideas to just get my feet wet.

you got me there, memeflag. Aquaponics requires recirculating the water, which requires either a pump or a perpetual motion device (patent pending.) I'm sure buying a pump with a long lifespan and a backup or two breaks your special self-sufficient requirements and therefore shouldn't ever be used by an individual interested in producing their own food. Thank you for your brilliant insight and critique

The best way to determine what factors you should take into account is to go out in nature and take in your environment; see how each micro-climate you're considering seems to work.

An issue to consider is that tree sprouts may be prone to being munched on by animals (particularly deer).

Ideally, this would mean that you should either grow in a spot you know is free from heavy grazing from woodland animals, plant seeds in excess with the hopes that some make it while others do not, or grow seeds at home and transplant them into the ground when they're a healthy size (though make sure it does grow to a size where the roots start to bundle up and become incapable of spreading as it could be detrimental to a tree's stability in the future). The biggest obstacle for tree growth are the first few months/years.

There are probably some amazing older books. But as far as newer books go...
>Encyclopedia of Gardening Techniques, American Horticultural Society
>The Backyard Homestead, Carleen Madigan
>The Essential Book of Homesteading, Ashley English

Exactly. Aquaponics require external energy and that's a problem if we want to build an antifragile system of true self-sufficiency. Buying enough spare parts could theoretically make the system last for generations. Also one could not sustain population growth generation-to-generation, if all one had is one reasonable sized aquaponics system. Also things to consider: disease in plants and fish. Therefore one would want several aquaponics systems that are not connected to each other, which in turn increases costs.

True dedication would be to build the pump to get its power from a water wheel.
