It's a really special thing in history though, what the US did to Japan. And Germany too.

1.0 and 2.0 were OK. If they want to remake the series in a condensed fashion, why not. I don't like a lot of the changes seemingly for no reasons (so far) though. The ending was new and it was pretty neat. Beautiful and horrible at the same time.
It's hard to judge 3.0 (and the small changes in the other ones) without 4.0 though. It's not a good movie by itself, but there's a lot of things that need explaining.
I really hope 4.0 will explain it all but I think that might have made a big mess that they can't fix.
