In the old days when a girl who was capable of having a child would all of a sudden go away to live with distant relatives it was because she got knocked up but wasn't showing. She'd go off, have the baby, the baby would be put in an orphanage and she would come back.
Another alternative is that the mother and daughter would leave and when they came back the child was presented as the mothers. Or a cousin who's parents died. Various lies - all to preserve the semblance of chastity of an unmarried girl.
I don't want to put anyone down for not knowing this - but it used to be pretty well known. Are zoomers really that out of touch?

"Studies" like these come out all the time from trash social science institutes. The journals the end up in are equally rubbish and the shit the publish one year will contradiction the shit from the next year.
I'd call it the science version of a national Enquirer article but there's probably no science, just qualatative guess work and feels.
