1. pocket money, so that they can learn about money and buying shit and practice making good decisions
2. helpful money, like cars and houses and shit, so that they can be independent. independence is important for children because it's practice for being an adult. it's up to you how generous you can afford to be and how much you think your kid can handle. if your kid is a fuck don't get them a car because they'll only be a fuck with it. but if your kid is mature and responsible then demonstrate your trust by giving them independence. just make it clear why it's happening. they don't get a car for turning 18, they get a car because a car is useful to have, they can be trusted with one, and you want to help them because you are their parent and you love them
3. gift money. don't buy gifts for people you don't like, and that includes your kids.

Basically, you should think about what the money is supposed to do for your kid to help them grow up. Don't just throw money at them. And never do anything for your child that they can do for themselves - within reason.
