Conservative voters were left frustrated that even when their party was dominant at the federal level, policy continued to reflect this divide of priorities in the form of simply enriching and protecting current wealth owners while half heartedly fighting losing cultural battles, and telling working class and middle class conservatives to just keep eating the shit sandwich. Probably what opened the gap for Trump and helped bring about the modern crueler and more vengeful and even less coherent conservative movement we are seeing - the posts on this board are good examples of this mixture of just rage and blatantly untrue horse shit cherry picker and outright fabricated to justify the anger. The funny part of course is Democrats are also just as angry because no one has been getting what they want from politics for decades here and are too stupid to understand the systemic problems behind this, namely intentional mismanagement of the post war economy to entrench power at the expense of social mobility and the decoupling of traditional means of wealth generation from actual wealth generation, all under the threat of the rest of the world catching up the US with no plan for dealing with the inevitable pain this would cause the working and middle classes.
