America has always been chaotic, what do you think reality was like in the Wild West? Endless rape and mindless murder. Mafia and Jews ruling the East Coast cities, Las Vegas was literally built on blood money. The South requires no explanation.
The 1950s was a temporary blip where they created some kind of capitalism/European hybrid lifestyle to make the Nazis and Communists look less appealing and it was built on the military industrial complex. The Amish and Mormons always kind of did okay recreating some kind of rural European lifestyle, but they had to create crazy religious cults just to maintain them.
The US homicide rate throughout most of its history has always been Mexico/Brazil-tier, you can see the artificial dip in the 1950s compared to the long term trend which Boomers and blacks quickly tried to bring back to the mean in the 60s onwards.
The US is currently going through another period of artificially induced peace (outside of ghettos which have maintained the American homicide rate norm, nothing more American than a ghetto filled with gun slinging criminals) due to technology and aging population, a trend also seen in the rest of the developed world.

We got a post-war boom. The people produced by our "greatest generation" went on to become failures as both citizens and (oftentimes) parents. Greatest generation myth is bullshit. This is when the seeds of downfall were beginning to sprout. Fathers neglected their sons and parents forgot to look at what their children were learning. A whole generation corrupted by a commie infiltrated government. The old school anti-reds were lambasted by the media constantly, which is why "Mccarthyism" is a buzzword despite the fact that he was almost entirely correct.

the dixie south actually was a nice place. They got wrecked by the northern kikes after they attempted to get independence. They felt that they were taxed and didn't get anything in return. After the war when the south was wrecked everything got bought up by northerners and the south never really recovered. The end of the war of independence was the end of the white south. The mind benders since then have rewritten history to say that the war was for the south to be able to continue using slaves.
