I've googled satanic ritual abuse, and ritual abuse as seperate terms, and I honestly find the results I get to be weird, almost eerie - what comes up on the entire first page is article after article with very direct headings like "satanic ritual abuse is not real' or to that affect, the articles themselves being very blunt and basically just asserting that it isn't real without going into much detail or making many arguments. And like ,every goddamn mainstream media company has one of these articles plus all the main liberal rags like buzzfeed.

Then you get to the actual more clinical writings on the matter and what I found was that they basically boil down to this: while they do give arguments about why the satanic panic was a hoax and the stories weren't true, they also discuss how whenever they are dealing with a patient who describes having experiened ritual abuse, specifically satanic ritual abuse, they will automatically take the tact that the accounts are not historical. Without explaining why, they simply assert that basically any account of satanic ritual abuse cannot be historical. And they describe how the therapist / psychiatirst/ psychologist whatever, will try and get the client to believe that the memories are not historical and that something else is at the source of these memories.

I just don't understand. Can you imagine if any other form of abuse was treated in this way? You come to a therapist and tell them about horrific abuse which you encountered - and because it happens to be ritualistic in nature, they automatically disbelieve the accuracy of your memory and try to get you to believe it didn't happen? isn't this gaslighting?
