No.1 Mk III

I have owned Enfield revolvers, Enfield pattern P1858s, Enfield made Martini's, SMLE No. 1's, No. 4's and some RFI SMLE 410 bore conversions.

The only gun out of all my Enfields that I dumped was my 1914 SMLE. The wood was very brittle and it lacked the reinforcing band above the trigger guard on the forend. It only stood up to a couple hundred rounds until it shit the bed. The sights also sucked. It was't worth dumping 200 bucks into for a replacement stock set so I cleaned it up and put it on GB.

No. 4 rifles are where it's at. The peep sights are very good and there are many out there in good shape. I have 3 of them and I reload custom MKVII duplicate loads for them. I also purchased and original British armorer's kit and have all the tools and sight leafs sets needed to dial them in. The ugliest of the bunch is a 1943 Fazakerly made rifle...I have shot MOA to 1.25 MOA sized groups with it using iron sights on many occasions. I have taken it to 500 yards and shot steel with it without issue.

I'm looking for a nicer SMLE, No. 1 but it may be a wall hanger or safe queen. The parts are getting too hard to find to justify making it a day to day blaster.

Now, I have a couple SMLE 410 bore conversions that were used in India. I have them setup to use around my farm with all manner of fuck around loands. I blasted a chipmunk on Saturday with 1/2 oz of number 6 shot and shredded it at 15 yards. Those are fun guns.

Enfields are fast and accurate bolt guns to use with irons. You can cycle them very quickly if you practice. If you do buy one, make sure you check the headspace as the bolt heads are notorious for stretching. I have hoarded 10 lifetimes worth but they are unobtanium these days. Your accuracy and service life can suffer if you can't keep them in check with good parts.

>No. 4 rifles are where it's at
I agree, the sights alone are a massive improvement. My LB rifles are some of the most accurate surplus I have, though much of that is likely owed to the condition of the bore and how well they like the ammo I feed them.

The not-Enfield, the P14.

Attached: 20171015_110507.jpg (4032x804, 1.7M)

How much did you get a NO. 4 for?
There's a store that has one for 400, but I dont know what's wrong with it and all their AR-15s are immensely overpriced. Not to mention there was a broken SKS going for 700

I'm sitting on a good amount of GP11 that I'd like to sell FTF. What's a fair price I should ask per round?

I'm in Northern Virginia to those wondering

1. I bought my first for $350 cash. It came with 160 rounds of remington core lockt 303 SP.

2. $125. It was sporterized and without a mag. I bought 10 full parts sets on Apex gun parts. I cherry picked through them, sold the other 7 in a lot on GB. I was able to build my gun and keep 2 sets as spares. I got the gun for nothing after that and made $100.

3. The third I got at a fudd gun shop in the middle of PA on a road trip. It is a 1953 made Enfield, still in the original grease and unfired. $295 with matching bayonet.

I go to gun shops about 1-2 times a week so after 12 years of being a gun nut, you are going to find some deals.

>forgotten weapons tells me how to think
get out of here with that refurbed shit

I love my No. 4 but man do I wish I got an SMLE

Would this have been good as a restoration project?

Anyone here know anything about converting a rolling block in 11.35 x 62mm (rimfire I think?) to .45-70 Gov't? Asking for a friend.

Lithgow is best Enfield

Attached: Lithgow-SMLE.jpg (2000x1333, 352K)

P14 or P17 has the peep sights of a No 4,
a Mauser Action and a one piece stock.
No shit smle trigger and no thin as paper shieeet metal magazine, but an internal box one.

Best of both worlds without the disadvantages (ok its quite heavy).

P14/P17 = best Enfield.

I like my Enfields like I like my houses, Victorian.

kek

How's it shoot?

Why not both?

pretty well.

As the user above said, the No4 is the best Enfield overall (duh - it was the last), but all the Lees are nice.

My favorite Lee is not even an Enfield though....

That's bloody pretty.

Thanks. Its one of the ones from the 2nd Naval contract. Fun shooter too, I'm long overdue to take her out again.

>this picture is already obsolete
I think I may start hoarding SMLEs to go with all my bayonets.

>Which Enfield is best Enfield
No1s were made with more care and have a better fit and finish, especially pre-WW1 and interwar rifles. That's it though. No4s are better though. Better bedding, sights, bolt, stock, balance, barrel. I think they look better as well. I had a No1 MkIII* once.

>no enfield

The best Enfield is the M1917 Enfield.

The one that's not really an Enfield, but would have been the best if it was adopted.

M1917

Mk.III is by far the most A E S T H E T I C

I prefer it's performance over other models as well, but it seems a lot of people prefer the Mk.IV or Ishapore. I've shot all of them and still prefer my 1917 asterisk.

Could be bias, though. It's my most beautiful firearm and I love it more than any other I've ever held.

Made a fair auction haul on Saturday. My budget was $800 and I spent just over that.

>National Postal Meter M1 Carbine. Needs new sight cuz bubba hacked the ears off and put it on backwards: $725
>120 rounds of Swede 6.5 Surplus: $25
>4 Chinese flatback AK mags: $15 for the lot
>No4 mk2 bayonet without scabbard: $3
>6 soft cases: $9

New sight just came today for the Carbine. And the Swede ammo lot also came with a box of .38 special ammo. The whole lot cost $35 but some guy bought the .38 ammo from me for $10, so that was nice.

I would love to see someone that small react to the recoil when it slams that brass buttplate into their shoulder at that raised height. Fucking mongoloid shouldering.

eww

Ok Jow Forumsunts I am in a bit of a pickle. I have a wartme SMLE and a remington mosin but I am going on a hunting trip to alaska in the fall and I need to convert one into a suitable hunting rifle. I plan on accurising the stock by removing part of the forend and also drilling the receiver for a nice scope. I may do some trigger work too but idk if I wanna get THAT extensive. Which one should I pick?

Also sorry for the wall of text

>le 56%
its okay, her ancestors were bleached by the King's own royal highlanders.

Attached: 1427920657239.jpg (583x1280, 88K)

This isn't really milsurp, but it's in a similar vein. I have a win94 (1900 manufacture) that I'd like to restore. Should I try to take the project on myself? Or should I send it to a gunsmith and pay the money. The gun has some family history and I'm nervous about letting someone else fuck with it, however unreasonable that is

What needs restoration on it? also, do you have any skills/tools?

And gunboards. But yeah, mostly Othias. His word is law.

About to purchase pic related
What all else do I need? I am buying a barrel & mags from Apex with the kit. Is it just the receiver then and it is ready to be built?
Also, anyone else have a 5.56 Galil ARM? How does it shoot?

You're a retard for not going out and buying a Savage Axis, TC compass, or other sporting rifles more capable than either of what you listed.

Sorry for feeding the troll guys...

Having a shorter, lighter rifle has advantages that overcome some of the cons. It’s a good rifle and the No 5 Mk II and airborne takedowns would have been cool.

But I already have two whole guns I can work without buying another. I'm not trolling. Which round would be better though 54r or 303?

You came into a surplus general thread to get advice on chopping up surplus rifles. Fucking troll.

Chop up the mosin since it's commie garbage anyway. I hope you get eaten by a bear.

I am sorry that I offended you I was just looking for helpful advice. Have a good day my friend

Anyone know where to get a fairly priced 1903 type c stock?

Well, the lighting was decent so here is my first foray into U.S. surp. $600 out the door.

Attached: 1898 Krag-Jørgensen profile.jpg (3000x850, 1.31M)

Serial number dates it to 1899, beautiful bore.

Attached: 1898 Krag-Jørgensen profile2.jpg (3000x797, 1.25M)

>But I already have two whole guns I can work without buying another.
If they already work, why would you need to do anything to them in the first place?

Attached: 20180418_091501.jpg (2293x1850, 2.58M)

Attached: 1898 Krag-Jørgensen stampings.jpg (3000x2000, 1.37M)

Be careful if you buy one...there are a shit ton of fakes out there.

Remove the upper handguard and look at the barrel. If it ins't machined on top and finished, it it is a fake. They also had hollow bolt handles and different receiver cuts to reduce weight.

I once argued with a guy that his gun was fake. There are a number of outfits that were cutting down No 4's and making them.

The condition of the action is unknown, it moves freely but it feels like there's something in there, probably just rust. The majority of the work should be just rust removal but I wouldn't be surprised if more problems come up. I have some general woodworking knowledge but know less about steel

>No1s were made with more care and have a better fit and finish
not compared to no4 mk2s

Because they are not scoped and I wouldn't trust them to make long shots

(You) have two options:
1. Git gud
2. Buy an axis

Attached: IMG_20180327_162014.jpg (3831x1265, 1.74M)

So instead of buying something built to take an optic, you're trying to Jerry rig one onto something that was never designed for it in the first place and cannot utilize it properly.

Solid plan.

Attached: 20180315_141544.jpg (3977x909, 2.84M)

Damn you're throwing out (you)s like it's trash day.

Attached: Gew-88-05-35.jpg (1996x619, 675K)

Dude, just get a Savage Axis. Mine was brand new and I'm into everything in pic related for less than $200.

Attached: 981498984794.jpg (1804x1010, 349K)

What’s /msg/ think about the French 1935a

But why buy a new gun if I can just modify one I already have?

I'm super fuckin jelly. All the Krags locally I've found the seller "knows wut I got" and ask $850+ for them.

The milsurp specific store in town had 2 for that price. When I asked the owner about a month after they were sold how much he'd give for one he said "I'd be hard pressed to give more than $650"

Attached: IMG_20180410_165213.jpg (3761x1351, 1.55M)

>more guns
>not raping your surp just to go hunt
>your bubba'd surp is gonna look like shit

Why not just use the ones you have with irons? I know you don't "feel comfortable with longer shots" or whatever, but I promise you can wax Bambi just as well without glass

Attached: IMG_20171126_123609.jpg (3745x2439, 2.29M)

When you do, be sure to Dremel off the iron sights, put a "custom riser" on the stock, take a band saw to the hand guards, and mount the optic right through the markings that would help increase it's value.

Might as well rechamber it for .300 Win Mag, since you're going all out bubba on this poor rifle.

I'm in a good mood for some reason. The sexiest of surplus pistols.

Attached: 20180508_094648.jpg (3990x919, 2.84M)

That's true, I forgot about them.

I need one.
>NC plz

i am sorry that i will have to rape you to death with a broomstick. really, sorry.

Speaking of enfields I think I’m going to go snag the $500 matched, wartime Long Branch at my LGS tomorrow

Why are you so angry friend? When I go on the trip I will post the pictures of the game I take with my modified rifle. You won't hate me so much then.

Looks nice.

Does anyone have any info on the differences between m1903 springfield ladder sight and windage knob differences?

It feels autistic as heck but im seeing differences and want to get the right one for my rifle

CURRY ENFIELD BEST ENFIELD

Do you live in Ontario? That picture looks like the Outdoorsman.

lot of good you are

>converting a Rolling Block

If its still in original condition, don't. Other than that, take it to a competent gunsmith or just cast/donor cases.

Enfields are lame, post Mannlichers instead

Just picked this up from the FFL with 60 rounds of PPU
