Sharpshooters in south city is an great range, other than the random nogs that come in and magdump their hipoints and hit the ceiling its pretty nice.

Former Mizzou student here. Maybe it's because I was in college, but I didn't enjoy my time up there. Almost no conservative friends. The public range just north of CoMo is nice though, and I did get my CC up there.

LSL might be your best bet, about 25-30min from the city's edge and really quite nice. Very low crime rate compared to anywhere east of it. Only downside is some of the local LEOs are a bit obnoxious. The whole area from chesterfield to wentzville is pretty alright, but it turns to boonies pretty quick out west. Saint charles is pretty cool, particularly the town area, believe they have some nicer neighborhoods as well that might be up your ally.

I just spent 2 and a half hours trying to put together info for both cheap/free camping and a place to shoot anywhere in the southern two thirds of the state and it just isn't happening with out someone offering private land for either one or both. A place to shoot on some anons land near cheap or free camping is about the only option from I found..
There is no Federal BLM land in Illinois and I can't find any info at all for shooting on National Forrest land even though its allowed in many places, They just don't publish the pertinent info, ten thousand words talking about the where and how's for dozens of activities and they hide info about shooting! Illinois really is a "Peoples Republic" but that's for Jow Forums.
