they strike great fear into the hearts of Turks and heretics

The Huns used lassos to pull riders off horses, the wings defeated that tacit

They look like avenging angels of death bearing down on you with a 20 ft stick.

The wings were ceremonial and not used in combat

Aesthetics

proofs?

well look at them

Looking cute when they bend over to get assraped.

How? It's not like it'll cut the lasso and the way they are shaped would still catch eh? It just wouldn't be as tight. I would think it's just a sign of prestige and nothing more.

If the lasso lands on the 'wing' , the wing will snap off the rider's back before the rider is pulled off the horse. The hussar can keep riding.

Wings were attached to saddles, not to husars armor

so the winged hussars can arrive

I’ve read that the wings would make a screaming whistling sound, and in a mass charge the sound of hundreds to thousands of the riders would horrify the enemy.

Plus it looks badass.

nah, it's a myth, it does not make whistle sound, a lot of horses in full gallop with armor clattering? no way

>Huns (a 4th century people) fighting against Poles (a nation that emerged in the 10th century)

The wings contained clackers that made a lot of noise, making the hussars sound more numerous than they actually were and scaring the enemy.
Of course the truth is we don't actually know.

Aesthetics. Very much like the notch in kukris those wings seem to be something that people are determined to find a practical purpose for despite there being a 99% chance that there isn't one. Many cultures have created armor that they sought to make imposing in one manner or another, the actual effectiveness of doing so seems debatable and IMO it's often just so the guy wearing it can feel dope.

Probably just an aesthetic thing, which can affect morale one way or the other. Like, if you see these guys boring down on you, not only do the wings make them look larger, but you know they're the baddest heavy cavalry in the world at the time. For their allies, seeing these guys show up must have been great, because you see the wings and know the baddest heavy cavalry in the world is on your side. Like, imagine being inside Vienna when it was besieged, and seeing those guys show up. Your spirits would be lifted for sure.

Goes faster, same reason they use cheetah pelts

Take parts of fast animal, put it on cavalry, now cavalry faster

It looks cool

I heard they made a clattering sound and that they were mostly aesthetics and were not really worn into battle. That's what I've heard anyway
