What's the benefit to making a shotgun both semi auto and pump action?

>baby's first shotgun coming soon
I'm excited.

So that you can manually cycle loads that won't run the action.

is there a way to date 870s? and what years do i avoid?

All of them, get a mossberg.

I think most of the problems were with the express line. Even when people were going off on how shit Remington was a few years ago I still heard good things about their 870 Police line.
I'd say just go for an used police or wingmaster that hasn't been beat to shit.

For a police gun, semi for buckshot/slugs and pump for less lethal loads that wont cycle the action.

Yes it is user...yes it is...

Just make your own. It couldn't be too difficult to make a bit of curved metal with holes in it that you can clip/clamp on.

>thinking a 590 is worth shit

>Beretta
already shitting up the thread with your bullshit

Was going to buy an 870. call around trying to find a police trade in since the express models are shite. no one has one, half the stores talk to me like i'm insane for asking such a question. end up buying mossberg 590a1 because i can actually go to the store and find one and there's a lot of reasons why the moss berg is more desirable than the remington. never looked back.

You seem to be confused.

anybody have any insights into the mag-fed shotties?

will they ever be as reliable as the tubes? are they even much worse than tubes, or is that just fud talk?

Saiga 12 seems really reliable, but honestly mag fed offers no real benefit for what shotguns are actually used for unless you're using a big, heavy ass drum. If you can't do the job in 8-9 rounds with a shotty, chances are you brought the wrong kind of gun to whatever fight you're in.

I have a few shotguns. Here's my Mossberg 500.

I see you decided to just put the nylon strap on the wood. Couldn't find a leather one supple/thin enough to not look goofy?

Nope. I haven't been looking to change it since it works well. It looked nice without it, but it is handy for recoil control so it's earned its keep.

I picked up this Savage model 69N a year back solely on aesthetics and I can't find anything on them
anybody here know anything about Savage/Stevens shotguns?

Attached: IMG_4278.jpg (4032x3024, 2.22M)

Too bad you couldn't get something like the handstop/sling mount on the Witness Protection 870 for the Shockwave.
I recall looking for one and found it but it was like $80 or something. A bit steep for a tiny piece of metal.

I love my mossy 500, easily my favorite gun.
Should get a wood buttstock soon to complete the look.

Attached: 20180530_020305.jpg (3264x1836, 1.75M)

You should really refrain from posting it until you get that wood stock. It looks like shit.

with the miss-matched furniture and wood that hasn't been finished I don't care if it doesn't look the best because it gets the job done and I'm happy with it.

I need one of these.
I don't care how bad or stupid they are in practice.

Attached: 1440648090266.gif (250x225, 1.88M)

imho, it's breddy kool lookin.

sorta retro-future vibes

Im sure you are, it IS a mossburg, but i was just telling you that mixing wood with polymer is an abomination.

thanks user, the mix furniture is really growing on me ever since I replaced the wood pump.
the look is'nt for everyone but I have no other choice since the low quality pinned forend that came with it had broke so I had to replace it. Just need to wait for the wood stock to come in.

Don't get an 870, I've had 2 now. And though it's my least favorite gun, a pump action is great for home defense. Remington is called Rustington for a reason.

My first gun was an 870, and though I didn't do great maintenance on it it shouldn't have became the fully rusted out piece of shit that it did. I simply had it in a 6 months and pulled it out only to find it completely covered in rust. I traded it to a guy for helping me move.

Now that I'm older I DO maintain the shit out of my firearms and despite giving it a once a month (or more) cleaning, it's still showing small bits of whitish surface rust in a couple of spots.... all my other guns get the same treatment these days (once a month cleaning or more) and the newer Remington is the only one that has rust.

If you're gonna go with an 870 go to one that has the fully smooth blued finish, those seem to do a lot better. The matte black is prone to rust more than any gun I've ever seen. I got a cheap Ruger pisol that's never had a speck of rust despite being cleaned at the same times as my 870.

My first gun was a UTS-15. Accessories for them are vanishing, Tooth And Nails armory did a run of several addons that I'm going to buy soon. Saving for the laser/light combo that the gun has a space for, but I really need the bottom rail and an AFG to pump firmly.

Should I get modified or full choke? I basically just use her for the lulz in the desert, but I want one of these tacticool breach chokes since they're one of those TNA runs and they aren't making any more of them. I figure modified so that theoretically, one mag can be loaded with slugs and the other with shot, with a couple breacher rounds on top. I see a lot of argument that basically you can't use slugs with full choke, and probably not breachers.

wilsongun.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=69&product_id=68

The SPAS is actually a huge clunky piece of shit.

You need to hold down the loading gate button to load shells, it is the most overweight frontheavy aluminum receiver shotgun I have ever held in my life and sounds and feels like a rattletrap. Activating the pump is counter intuitive and you have to fight the spring to use it. It only cycles the highest quality defensive loads reliably. The polymers are weak and crack easily and the gun destroys its own aluminum receiver unless you have the buffer installed.

Hey guys, with the mossberg 500, is it possible to remove the magazine tube without removing the trigger group and bolt assembly?

On the plus side it soaks up recoil like no other with low brass. That doesnt really make up for the pants on head manual of arms, weight and bulk but at least its something.

Bought this for gun games, fell in love.

I don't think you can get one post 1991-2 because of import bans, unfortunately.

Shotguns fucking sex, I try think why no somebody post as much in shotgun posting as much as Armalite or Kalashnikov postings.

A rock hard cock.
You need any other reason?

Que?

Put down the vodka for a minute Sergei.
To me it's like having the option of operating the bolt on an AK or any other gun every shot instead of just having semi-automatic, even being tube fed, having a reciprocating bolt and handle would alleviate the need for excessive moving parts.

Not legal in California.

Who asked you compadre?

I'm thinking of getting a mossman 590 but I can't decide between a classic bead and some ghost ring sights.
Does it make much of a difference if I'm not shooting slugs all day?

idk i've never had a SG with ghost ring sights on it.
but i would guess gutter/bead for mainly skeet/trap/bird

ghost ring if mainly for tactical ops

Attached: 870.jpg (2016x1512, 888K)

i'm not your compadre, muchacha

Old Remington is best Remington. I wouldn't touch a new 870, but I love my old 90's Police trade in.

Attached: MVIMG_20171030_174826.jpg (1680x1260, 619K)

You can literally do everything with a bead you can with sights on a shotgun, by the time you stretch your range far enough out to need sights you're starting to leave shotgun ranges anyway. Hickock used iron sights to shoot 230 yards with slugs through a smoothbore, and did amazingly, and he even admitted he can do the same with a bead. It comes down to preference at those ranges, because you'll be holding sights differently at different ranges than just holding over with a bead.

That said, I have a maverick 88, mossbergs are king.

i still kick myself for passing up a deal on one of these,.

>just bought my first shotgun
>old police wingmaster with a +2 extension
Anything I should look out for mechanically?
Should I meme it up and get a used top folder off ebay or do they suck too much?

Attached: 1457410615924.gif (150x150, 119K)

hey lads, i bought my first scatter gat its a tidy single shot Baikal, ive been told its only for lead shot bc of the choke, ive been told that i can just get it re machined and bored out for steel shot is that correct?
and also what are the advantages of being able to shoot steel shot?
also curious if i can shoot slugs and stuff out of my gun in its current state?

Attached: bab.jpg (960x720, 69K)

Sometimes those +2 extensions, even Rem factory ones, can bind up on the factory remington metal or orange plastic follower. I specially upgraded my old Wingmaster with an aluminum follower (I use Nordic compnents) and an extra power mag spring. Otherwise, no issues. I wouldn't recommend the top folder unless you have a specific storage requirement for it.

you are correct

Both the SPAS-12 and TEC-9 are banned by name in California as stated in the Roberti-Roos AWB of 1989.
The only way to own one in Cali is if you already had it before the 1989 AWB since they were grandfathered in.

Attached: 20170408_005118.jpg (4032x2268, 2.36M)

Just ask it out and be yourself. Shell accept you if you're honest

I thought they were banned in all states, fuck Cali, I don't live there. I thought it was some import law.

The SPAS-12 with the folding-stock has been banned from import since 1989, but they still continued to sell them with a fixed stock and smaller magazine tube size instead to get around the import laws until the 1994 Clinton AWB.
After the AWB expired in 2004, Franchi had already discontinued the SPAS-12, so no new SPAS-12's have come into the country since 1994 and there is roughly only ~1,850 that made it into the country before the ban.
You can still buy them now that the 1994 AWB expired and if you live in a free state that doesn't ban certain guns, but they aren't easy to find, however they do pop up on Gunbroker from time to time.
My SPAS was made in 1982 and my TEC-9 was made sometime between 1987 and 1991.

Would I be better off getting a Mossberg 930 or something if I want a semi-automatic then? I'd prefer either something domestic or something that offers an AM or factory tube that holds 7-8 rounds, instead of 4 like Benellis and other imports usually get jewed with.

Yeah, I try to tell everybody this, but don't buy a SPAS-12 if plan on using it for anything other than some target shooting every now and then.
A lot of people go into spending $1500+ on a SPAS-12 without knowing what they're getting themselves into.
Most SPAS-12's will require some TLC before they are ready to shoot (replacing just about every single internal rubber or plastic component; thankfully SPAS-12 project makes this much easier.)
I've seen a lot of people sell their SPAS-12's right away because they use the wrong type of ammo in them and they complain about it jamming all the time (They need to be used with high-brass buckshot in semi-auto in order to cycle the action all the way.)
Also the controls on it can be a little confusing and annoying to people when first handling it. Especially the fact you have to hold down the bolt release in order to load shells into it.
It's a neat collector's piece in my mind, as well as a very antiquated relic of the 80's by today's standards.
Get the Mossberg if you just want a straight up semi-auto shotgun that will work well enough.

>owning a semi auto shotgun that doesnt run every type of shell loading

out of the way pleb

Attached: ben117113.jpg (2301x562, 606K)

Pretty sure thats not where your sling is suppose to attach to user.

>Not needing a fuck long action spring in the late 70's

It's handy and well-balanced but it is definitely fiddly to load. It cycles reliably but you need to put some force behind it. I find it easier to cycle it reliably with a vertical foregrip. I tried using a handstop and rail covers but it doesn't offer as secure of a grip.

Attached: IMG_0647.jpg (4272x2848, 803K)

>>This

Mine jams with S&B shells because they have rolled ends that make them slightly longer when fired.
Its also beat the shit out of itself and sheared the rear sight screw off and bent the heatshield in the process. Finding the screw was a matter of luck but when it works, its a joy to shoot.

Best red dot/reflex for 870, looking at home defense/competition
