Gunmen dressed in ACUs twarted when guards recognized outdated uniforms in Afghanistan

>Gunmen dressed as U.S. soldiers and traveling in a captured Humvee set off a suicide bomb and then tried to shoot their way into the Afghan Interior Ministry before being killed by government forces Wednesday, security officials said.
>It’s not clear who carried out the attack — one of at least three that occurred in Afghanistan on Wednesday — that targeted the Interior Ministry’s compound a few hundred yards from Kabul’s airport and a coalition air base where Americans and their allies train Afghan forces.
>Just after midday, a car bomb exploded at the entrance to the ministry compound, said Hashmat Stanekzai, spokesman for Kabul police.
>“After that, several gunmen tried to get into the ministry, but they faced resistance by our security forces,” he said. “The attackers were not able to enter the ministry.”
>The firefight ended a little more than two hour later, he said, and all the gunmen had been killed. He could not say how many other casualties there were besides the assailants.
>At least one of the attackers was captured, Gen. John Nicholson, the top U.S. commander in the country, told reporters at the Pentagon via video conference later in the day.
>But Nicholson disputed claims by the Islamic State group’s Afghanistan affiliate that it was responsible for the attack. Both the Taliban and ISIS have carried out attacks that have left hundreds dead in recent months. The Taliban, however, had not claimed responsibility for the attack.
>The tactics smacked more of the Taliban’s Haqqani network, Nicholson said, referring to a brutal branch of the insurgent group considered its most capable. For example, their use of American uniforms and their targeting of a government facility.
>“We have seen [American] uniforms used in the past,” the American general said. “It’s been well over a year since we’ve seen that.”

Woah, this goes all the way to the top.

>ISIS attacks tend to be person-borne, involving suicide vests, and indiscriminate, often targeting Shiite minorities in the country.
>The use of military uniforms and a vehicle was a concern, Nicholson said, as it might cause a hesitation or delay in responding to the attack. However, he said the Afghans responded as they should have.
>“They did exactly what they were supposed to do,” he said.
>The guards at the gate recognized that the uniforms were dated versions of those worn by U.S. soldiers and demanded the attackers exit the vehicle. That’s when the fighting started, Nicholson said, and one of the attackers detonated a suicide vest, killing himself and some of his fellow gunmen.
>The Crisis Response Unit 222, a special police unit, responded to the attack and quickly killed the remaining assailants, Nicholson said.
>Seven gunmen had attempted to enter the compound, said Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish. One police officer was killed and five were wounded, he said.

This. Wtf man.

Usually they try to imitate ANA. Using a Humvee in 2018 is a pretty dead giveaway they aren’t American. It looks much more like ANA.

Why did he do it, though?

we're reaching levels of double-crossing that shouldn't even be possible

>switch uniforms everytime a new flavour-of-the-month comes out
>foil anyone trying to wear your uniform to attack you

Looks like the Iranians didn't like Mr. Trump's decision.

Are you retarded?

Not surprising for a "journalist" to have sub-highschool grammar.

ALAN SNACKBAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Americans have no uniform and no doctrine, how could you even hope to infiltrate them?

Here's what it looks like when Iran does it.

Pardon my ignorance, but is the US military not using humvees anymore? what are they using? only MRAPS?

Humvees are still used sometimes, but for combat use they've largely been replaced by the M-ATV and soon the JLTV/L-ATV

You'll still see Humvees stateside or on "noncombat" deployments

The gunmen were wearing shitty chinkshit ACU.
You can spot larpers with knockoffs from a mile away.

>>The guards at the gate recognized that the uniforms were dated versions of those worn by U.S. soldiers and demanded the attackers exit the vehicle

I don't believe it. It's more likely the guards noticed they were shit skins, dressed as US soldiers.

Why do Trump era generals look like leaders and Obama era generals look like autistic basedboi's?

>one of the attackers detonated a suicide vest, killing himself and some of his fellow gunmen

"Don't do that again, mohammed".

Cease.

By not wearing a uniform and acting erratically. Just moonwalk up to a checkpoint dressed in random pieces of meme-tarn and the they'll wave you through.

the security forces were afghani

try again but be literate next time

The ultimate meme team.

How do you know? It could have been uniforms left behind. And how realistic is it to expect Afghanis to tell the difference?

The US hasn't worn UCP in Afghanistan in almost ten years

>And how realistic is it to expect Afghanis to tell the difference?
Not him, but pretty high.
They have some sharp dudes, just crippled by idiotic political-crony officers/leaders.

The ANA wears all sorts of mixed UCP, OCP, BDU, cookie, desert, etc... camo from shit we've given them or they've bought on their own.
I'm sure some of them can identify camo quality from a mile away.

>lists Qasem Soleimani as a belligerent

Wikipedia, not even once

Quiet you fool, you'll blow everything. Now we'll have to change it to doing the thriller and wearing alpenflage.

Lol'd

His point was that afghanis are not arabs. Afghanistan is a country in central asia.

Also there could be other bits, which we are not informed of yet - or ever will. There may have been a surveillance camera running all incoming car signs against a database. The infiltrators may not have had ID papers, or spoken English with a bad accent. You don't usually choose your best educated and brightest guys for a suicide mission. Maybe there was a US unit doing the actual security with the Afghans being merely window dressing.
