I don’t normally post this anymore, but somebody requested it the other day.
I can’t take credit for it, this was an experiment by my buddy who was learning to sew. Made from a bandoleer and duffel bag we had around. The stitching looks like ass but I’ve wore it and it holds up to jiggling around in a killhouse for a day.
How do those glasses feel? I used to do the thing with goggles attached to my helmet and it always distracting how they were being pulled up toward the helmet.

are different colored comtacs indicators of different service branches or are they literally just different colors?
I’m not our tripfag above, but my interest got peltors and comtacs in like 4 different colors. Depended on when it was bought and the model.
Even if something is officially an “army model” or a “navy model” that stuff cross pollinates. The only thing people get weird about is MARPAT and EGAs. Otherwise nah, I’ve had Marines call up asking for multicam uniforms, and worked with USAF dudes wearing woodland drifires. Part of being cool is learning not to sperg about branch gear.
Dominic Barnes
Comfortable. They're nice to use when I'm riding my ATV around.
Im actually getting out of the gear game, sold my plate carrier and plates and all. I don't really care for it anymore. It was cool for a bit but now im keeping the actually useful items. I just wanted to know if the colors meant anything since on ebay and such its a mixed bag
Ayden Clark
eBay is retarded. They have gear descriptions like “Genuine SEAL Special Forces Delta Force plate carrier US Army”.
Just trying to get the most search results for their listing.
Hey /gq/ I currently have a chest rig, and was thinking about getting plate carrier plus plates, are there any you know in a woodland camo pattern, most I see are coyote brown, OD green black or in multicam, I'm not really into those, I have some OD green stuff but woodland is my go to stalkan gear. Also is Voodoo tactical any good, my brother was looking and saw them.
Go for a solid color when you're getting parts and pieces for your carrier. It's usually cheaper for a solid color. Woodland was obviously fielded with OD green in mind, but coyote looks pretty good above it. Coyote looks good with juat about anything really, even greys and blacks.
Also, are you going to wear your chedt rig over your carrier? Or do you want a standalone plate carrier?
Aiden Reyes
Despicable and understandable.

>patterned LBE gross, if you're going to wear woodland, at least do it right
Honestly its a place holder strap I threw on just to be able to wear it. Yeah it rides high with the intention of gear belt bags in the lower back. It started as a surpluss duffle bag for a plate I found at the salvation army for $3. Found the duffle for $1.99. So $5ish for 3c front protection.
Never put much attention to the /gq/ threads till I wore my first plate. Now I lurk to take notes. I got a bunch of seatbelt webbing and a machine that can stitch three layers from my climbing/rigging days. Version #2 soon.

Keep updating because I'm thinking of starting the same kind of deal and I'll want to see how they both come along. I just got back to the states so I'm hoping I can snag a machine soon.
French Service Action commando (DGSE equivalent to SOG) killed during an hostage rescue attempt of another SA member on January 11th ; 2013. Attempt failed, hostage got executed shortly after, and there was a small controversy about civilians deaths. Some suspect(ed) that they got killed to ensure the raid would remain a surprise, others don't care. It's not that widly known even in France, except the picture itself, some would be aware of its existence, nothing more.
Anyone have a good recommendation for a leather or cloth holster own for CZ p10c untill I get my chl?

Some dude on Ebay is offering me an old pair of US taker goggles with "replacement ballistic glass". AFAIK tanker goggles were only dust and wind, is he bullshiting me? And if he isn't, wtf is this, is this general issue or some aftermarket thing? What ballistic rating are we talking? Could I, theoretically, rely on those for eyepro? I always loved the design to death and lamented not being able to use it for eyepro so if he's telling the truth, it would be awesome.
Lucas Edwards
Dumb question but are the cheapass plate carriers from chinkshit sites (wish, aliepress) functional? worth 30-40 bucks if all it has to do is hold a plate?
or do they fall apart like the cheap chinese shit they are? Literally just want something cheap that holds a couple of plates.
Logan Garcia
They might be fine for fake airsoft foam plates
Wyatt Johnson
Thanks I will let my bro know. I don't think I will, my chest rig currently is what I used when I played airsoft as a kid, it's hung together pretty well considering how much I have beat it up, but I want to replace it. Would a plate carrier + belt set up work? I currently can hold 8 mags and a radio on my chest rig now.
Also unrelated, are steel plates still a shit idea, I'm thinking of going ceramic but I have heard they can be a bit fragile, others disagree.
Julian Mitchell
Has anyone ever ordered from Grey-Shop before? They have a cool selection of Gorkas
Dylan Harris
I haven't but I've seen some posts about slow shipping.
Evan Butler
Ceramics are superior. Steel is cheapshit. People who talk up steel are overcompensating to keep from facing buyer’s regret. Ceramic plates are not fragile, ceramic doesn’t mean it’s like grandmas plates. Only retards fall for that.
This has been my one contribution to this discussion. I won’t post follow ups about steel plates because it seriously stresses out my blood pressure when people continue talking about them.
Recommendations for a multi cam chest rig similar to a FLC? Just going to mount a double stacked 3 mag pouch, 2 canteen pouches on the sides, and an IFAK pouch on the back

I need to buy some plates. I was leaning towards getting some lighter plates but I have seen recalls for several lighter plates due to delamination issues. I have never seen a recall for plates that were just built to beat the threat without regard to weight. Should I just stay with heavy plates and skip the whole light plate game? Pic related.
Are WGWS cut plates always faggy? The argument is that you get less coverage than you do with a SAPI cut. Is there potential for getting better coverage from a larger sized WGWS cut plate versus a smaller sized SAPI cut plate? My speculation is that the larger cutout may allow a generally larger plate to fit on the same torso, therefor providing more actual square inches of coverage. There is, of course, the argument of the value of the different square inches being covered.
For the most part is right. Steel does have a certain romantic aura about it due to its permanence. Even if your spall coating takes a shit, you can always recoat it. That having been said, good ceramics stop threats that will slice through steel plates. The heavier ceramic plates like the Hesco 4400 series are very rugged and are not likely to shatter under normal use. The 10x12 is very cost competitive at $130. If I did go with steel then I would choose a plate made of steel that was rated from the mill as armor from the moment it became a sheet. This means something along the lines of MIL-A 46100, not AR500. I find it hilarious that an armor manufacturer chooses steel for armor plates that was never rated by the mill as armor. Regardless, M193 tends to squeak through 46100 (and AR500) at ranges under 25 yards. This might be mitigated with a ballistic spall-blocker but I would not want to stake my life on it.
Can you see fine through them? Feasible for eyepro?

I'm going to get a safariland holster for pistol classes and two gun/steel matches. My pistol normally wears a weapon light but it won't during matches. Should I get a holster that can accommodate a light and look a little dumb at matches or get a holster that does not accommodate a light and leave my light at home for classes? Thank you gq.
