what were they thinking giving it a metal handguard? Even the plastic handguard on mine got alarmingly warm just from me getting the gas system and sights adjusted.

Go for it - that's the one I got and it works fine. Be ready to wait a while for it though - DSA has a 6-8 week wait (as of ~march) between placing the order and it getting delivered because they're backlogged and have to build each rifle.

Well it's my first FAL and .308 as well, and my other experience is limited to bolt-action milsurps and an SKS.

That being said, they're great guns. The gas system is a bit more finnicky than I was expecting - you actually have to find the middle ground between over-gassed and under-gassed or else you're going to have a lot of feeding issues - but otherwise I don't have any complaints. Just be sure to invest in a front sight tool since DSA doesn't zero their guns.

As far as accuracy goes, I'm not a particularly good shot, so I can't help you much there. I've heard the SA58s aren't particularly accurate, but I'm also not good enough of a shot to notice if the problem's the rifle instead of me.

look around gun stores and gun shows. If you're in the DC area, Vienna Arsenal has a few metric FAL mags that should work with a DSA FAL, but they're marked up about $5-10 more than they're listed for on DSA's site and they seem to be finnicky. When I got mags from there, I brought my gun in and made sure I only bought ones that actually fit right.

Well their website is down so I can't check to be sure but I'm pretty sure I got the version that's like $25 more than the one you posted that came with a bipod. IIRC the one you posted also has the bipod cut barrel - only the Voyagers don't have that.

I ended up taking it off for now though because it adds a bunch of weight to the front of the rifle and the places I shoot right now don't give me a good position to actually use the bipod.

Unless you want DSA's ugly plastic ones, your only options are really hoping they pop up at gun stores and gun shows.

I heard someone say that the l1a1 has different, better ergos than the metric pattern FN FAL. Is this true? I dont have any side by side but the grip looks different on some of them.

It's the charging handle and fire selector that are different from what I've seen, though I've never handled a metric pattern.

Does anyone know if someone makes a bipod that I can use with my FAL? It's got a 16 inch barrel without the typical bipod cuts, however the handguard has the indentations for a bipod. Is this due to mismatching furniture, or do I have an option for a bipod?

For the sliding rear sight on a metric FAL, how much wiggle should it have? Whats the best way to go about addressing it?

No bipod cut means no bipod. IIRC that furniture always comes with the bipod indentations even if it's on something that can't mount one.

dont get me wrong I love the FAL as its a great battle rifle but can its accuracy really be pushed to make all that stuff worth it? or is it just aesthetics/ergos?

I think it's more a consequence of having a thin barrel, not that it isn't nice, but it does heat up really fucking quick because there's not much material to heat.

Reminder that a FAL pattern rifle will never be as good as a G3.

As good at what exactly? Blowing .30cal holes in the human anatomy? I would wager that the FAL has a higher kill count than the G3.

DSA released a heavy barrel version dubbed "Gray Wolf" with a trigger job and a free float hand guard. Mine shot better than most stock FAL's but it wasn't sub-moa or anything either.

Hard to find now unfortunately. Back in the early 2000s full rhodie kits were 150 on some sites before people had access to info on how to build them and before people even knew much about Rhodesia. Now you got to mostly got to piece them together nowadays. Full kits are rare but come up on GB and go for up to 2k. Sometimes you can find key parts like RA marked bolts and lowers and rhodesian long stocks, barrels furniture etc.

Adjust the gas, there's 875 settings just for you.

your best bet if you don't want to shop around and have no idea what you're looking for is DSA. They're the only new-production guys out there. Keep in mind, though, they're going to be more expensive than finding a good parts kit gun or building one yourself, and you're still in for a 6-8 week wait because they build it from scratch.

Otherwise, shop around for parts kit builds. Look around gunbroker, check gun stores, etc.

One thing to keep in mind is that there's inch and metric pattern FALs that look pretty much identical but aren't interchangeable, especially when it comes to magazines.
