When you kill your gun culture you kill all the good things that come from it too, like practice ranges (and the incentive and motivation to use said ranges), combat instructors, and a whole load of other good shit that we in the u.s. take for granted. The way he told it, the Indians had lost that battle before it even started.

Remember this same thing happened in France (twice) where the attackers ambushed and slaughtered people before escaping for a few days and killing more? A terror attack is different then say, a mass shooter, because they want to do as much damage as possible but are willing to retreat and reorganize and attack again, leading police/military forces on a chase. A mass shooter wont think that far ahead and plans on one mass killing and a final stand in the same event

I've read a lot about internet infrastructure and most of the most critical switches and shit are just sheds out in the middle of nowhere. If you sent two UD teams to attack undersea cables and a few more teams to run around blowing up isolated internet infrastructure, you could completely blackout commerce for like 100 million people for days or even weeks.

I cannot emphasize enough that the main defense for network infrastructure is that people just don't think about it or understand how it physically works. Like its invulnerability is that people don't know how vulnerable it is.

Short of LAPD or NYPD, I do not imagine any lesser law enforcement agencies in this country would be able to field a superior force against a well trained, prepared, coordinated platoon sized element that had the initiative and violence of action without sustaining similar casualties.

You would quickly need to assemble, coordinate and field an element three times the size of the opposition with equivalent training, communication and firepower to ensure suppression. That is something that is probably extremely difficult to do even under the best of circumstances. You are unlikely to ever have a company-sized SWAT element standing by for QRF. If there was never any intel that would allow law enforcement to at least anticipate such an event from taking place, let alone precluding it, it would be difficult to respond without seeing a similar result as what happened there.

I think the takeaway is that so few people want to truly terrorize people. There's a million ways to do damage if you are truly dedicated to it but few people ever do it. What keeps us safe isn't necessarily things we use for security but the fact there are so few people who truly want to hurt us in a meaningful way.

There's gang shooting, road rage killing but almost no one sits down, plans and then implements something like this.

Our defense for that is a country where its better to be alive than dead. Upward mobility, freedom from discrimination, high standard of living etc. There will always be the Ted Kazinskys but luckily they are few and far between.
