You do realize that they've had Spetsnaz units in there for quite a while now, since at least early 2016. In total around 200-300 Russian mercs, soldiers, or air crews have been killed in Syria since they first intervened, most of them being no-flag Russian mercs. Their spec ops guys are the only ones that have been performing exceptionally well on the ground, while their mercs are almost useless, except as canon fodder.

Actually, as a neutral party (I'm neither american nor russian and I collect stuff from both militaries). I gotta say, russkies really did knock it out of the park with the syrian equipment It's quite n0ice. They actually have desert body armor, lvb's and helmets in general use at this point (marines use the uniform you see in the pic+ webbing printed in the same camo, army uses a different one in a form of oversuit+ plain beige for webbing elements). I'm just doing a military police impression (notice brassard). They started the war fielding all woodland shit and now they get a mixed bag, but they have been seen using the marine's uniform+ woodland webbing, I just find the combination to be more aesthetic.
