You can find a used Security Six for under $500. Basically the same gun.

Cool, ill definitely get one. Thanks

Ill checj it out, thanks

Saw a a gently used one at a Turner’s for $600 in CA of all places, so might not be as unobtainable as you think, and apparently that happened a lot when they came out. Pussy ass owners wanted a sexy magnum but weren’t ready for the feel of it with wood grips.

And then sold it after a box or 2. Personally I would never sell mine, definitely has the best range and accuracy of any handgun I own and it even inspired a buddy of mine to buy it’s little bro, the SP101 MC for hiking defense and snake killing purposes.

>SP101 MC for hiking defense and snake killing purposes.

That's me but with the standard model. I do my own action work so not worth it to pay for Ruger to do it. Love the SP101 for innawoods.

Yeah he kinda impluse bought it but he’s enamored with it so who am I to judge? It’s a great little gun though, accurate as all hell and pretty easy to shoot with hot .357, we haven’t put any hard cast 180gr through it yet though but it was really great to shoot with what we had.

No GP100s and SP101s aren't especially durable compared to other revolvers. When people say Rugers are strong, they're specifically talking about the redhawk and blackhawk models

If he thinks it's too much tell him to try the hogue grips. They are wider than the standard grips and long enough to let you get a full grip.

Wrong

Ruger makes some damn one serviceable revolvers in both single and double action. They will do what you need them to and probably out last your grandkids.

*damn fine

what happens if that actually happens like the guy carrying the gun by mistake would he get sent to jail?

Get a .357, both are the same diameter but .38 built revolvers can’t handle the same pressure and .357 can candle both

Others have already said it but I want to add my 2c on the matter.

If you can find a used Ruger Security Six you're set. They usually sell for $300-400ish, sometimes dancing around $500-600 in particularly good shape. You don't have to get one NIB, it can be well worn and still go the distance.

I bought one years ago for $350 and absolutely love it. I've fired thousands of rounds through it in addition to many thousands it fired under previous ownership. Still shoots exactly the same now as it did then.

They are very solid guns that did well in testing. The newer GP100 is a development of the same basic design so it's just as solid but not quite as cheap (usually $500-600).

Of course classic pre-lock Smith and Wessons are solid as fuck too. You can score an old police trade-in Model 10 for about $300 if you snoop around, but it won't be able to fire .357 magnum so I'd still prefer a Ruger.
If you can find an old S&W 28 Highway Patrolman those are rock solid and well fitted. Good luck finding one under $500, but it happened for me so it can happen for you too.
