Jow Forums, I wish to learn more of Cold War USSR submarines, from the details on the boats themseves to Soviet doctrines for submarine use. I was hoping someone here might know of good sources, be they books, documentaries, or websites?

Norman Polmar's book Cold War Submarines is a pretty good place to start. It covers both the US and Soviet boats and there's a good section toward the back about all the institutional and logistical problems the Soviet navy faced as well.
Submarines are fucking horrifying. Especially Soviet ones for some reason.
>Especially Soviet ones for some reason.
that reason is called lack of Admiral Rickover
Noisy as fuck
Thank you!
But still fun to use in games like Harpoon.
Play cold waters. its not a simulator, but theres a lot of sonar theory. This guy was a sonar tech , and is able to explain what he can. youtube.com
hmm. I was there when that picture was taken.
Is it just me, or are there big chunks of the anti-acoustic coating missing?
yes there are chunks missing.
i take that back, i wasn't in shithole groton for that picture
Ive heard about cookie cutter sharks doing that.
Use remote viewing and astral projection brah.
Deda said the Soviet equivalent was super toxic back in the 60s (chock full of lead)-probably killed a bunch of those ugly bastards...
Yeah, guess why I want to know more?
Am having fun taking an Alfa against the Soviets and trolling the fuck out of everyone.
Imagine how fun a multiplayer version would be: you could
>grind your way up from Guppy conversions to a Seawolf
>hunt packs of noobs in diesel botes once you make it to SSNs
>escort CBGs as other players attack in Oscars that you have to preemptively tail and kill
>play keep-away in a boomer...
You lose a lot of coatings on months long deployments. British subs use tiles (not sure if astute class uses them) and they look pretty rough by the time they return.
Why did they switch back to missile tubes inside the pressure hull? I liked the old design...
It always made for nice WIDE BOTES-probably harder to build/maintain, though...I wonder if it was safer?
>Game relies extensively on time acceleration
>multiplayer
The Oscar isn't an SSBN, all of which have vertical tubes within the pressure hull. However past SSG/SSGN's like the Juliet and echo have their tubes outside of the pressure hull at an angle.
I got qualified on that boat, I know those sailors standing on her as well.
SSBN Akula/Typhoon isolated the silos too
I'm not saying they have to be angled...
Is that an Alpha? Can we see a better detailed pic of her prop?
The Hunt for Red October novel isn't a bad starting point. Red Storm Rising dives pretty deep into sub tactics (even if it's in a pretty much fantastical scenario).
>YWN slap-shot a Soviet sub with a active sonar/torpedo one-two KO
I wish Musky would buy one and rip out all the silos to replace it with a horizontally-stored Falcon 9 that goes vertical for launch like pic related
I hear they were comfy, if not all that safe...
