Should the British military aim to be a first rate military power?

they cant, they banned all the guns

Why should they? Genuine question.

It is, but in certain narrow areas. But it's nothing to aspire toward. Best case scenario you end up a smaller version of the USA.

It should withdraw from NATO, immedaitely. It should also cease all international military cooperation with nations outside of the Commonwealth. Military spending should be increased, but with the sole intention of protecting the country from the European Union.

Forget expeditionary warfare and power projection. It's an idiotic thing to aim for. Even when you have infinite money (the USA) you don't gain anything from it. We haven't fought a war outside our borders that was worth doing since 1982. Military force should protect the UK and its Overseas Territories, and anyone else should look elsewhere for help.

This feels like its one sentence off from sour grapes.
Plus, I have a feeling that should anyone mention that cutting ties with burgerland and then going it alone is a bad fucking idea due to not having any strategic alliance with the last real big boy at the table, you might sperg.

Hello Ivan.

I also have to say that the EU things sounds like autism but using it for defence only is good.

Maybe not the army but it seems fucked up for them not to make sure they are a premiere navy.

its aiming to be a 3rd rate nation. why would a 3rd rate nation need a 1st rate military?

>the british army should be a cannonball fired by the british navy

t. british Admirality

fair point

They don't have the economy for it, they don't have the industry for it (the British defence industry is a literal meme), they don't have the demography for it, they don't have the geography for it and their soldiers are crap (except for their snipers).

Which means that even if they wanted to, they couldn't.

Yes, as the UK is the second most powerful western security guarantor. Were the UK to draw down to limited aspirations this would severely impacted global western influence and security.

America would especially suffer, as they would likely have to replace many of the gaps left by the British withdrawal.

>They don't have the economy for it
One of the largest economies in the wolrd.
>they don't have the industry for it
One of the largest military exporters in the world - was second largest in 2016.
>they don't have the demography for it
?
>they don't have the geography for it
Did geography stop it from running the largest empire in the world?
>their soldiers are crap
second most experienced force in operations abroad.

At least if you're going to criticize, be factual.

Did 12 years and I’m still at a loss as to why men from the Shire counties of England and across the UK should have to fight with their lives on the line because Tel Aviv or Washington say so.

Let the Americans do it if they want to. They’re nearly as well trained but they’re better at everything else because of the funding and size. We might be excellent at small scale stuff but it has no benefit to us, costs us money and lives and doesn’t do a thing for the native population.

Isolation is the key.

Yes Ivan, but twelve years in the GRU didn't really mean much in this context.

While this is bait, I'll never understand how people don't understand that a strong military has more to do with foreign policy and diplomacy than defending a nation.

>why men from the Shire counties of England and across the UK should have to fight with their lives on the line because Tel Aviv or Washington say so

Because where else are we going to get our fights from?

They're on their way in half a generation user. With the growth of the religion of peas and uncontrolled immigration from MENASA countries, without a doubt they will become a first rape military power.

Not who you responded to but:
>One of the largest economies in the wolrd.
getting funding for BAF is near impossible and Gavin Williamson needs to put his foot down ricky tick

Third world countries never have first rate militaries

anglomorphs cant fight

That explains America then
