/msg/ - Military Surplus / Milsurp

Military Surplus Thread, Edition of 1903.

I recall some Anons were desiring of 1903s and there's a cache of them at this auction on Saturday: proxibid.com/asp/Catalog.asp?aid=151789

MSG will be replaced with AR rifles of today in 30 years, let that sink in.

I need an '03, but I can't find them under 700 anymore.

Attached: SPA - FR 8.jpg (3521x926, 1.87M)

Really? They seem to be experiencing a slump in the current market.

Attached: Untitled.jpg (646x584, 126K)

Has anyone, by any chance, seen a No. 1 Type 2** sheath for sale?

Last year I saw a bunch for under 700 at gun shows, now I'm only seeing them over that,m all the cheap ones are gone. I dunno.

Attached: IND - No 1 Mk III star.jpg (2560x1440, 1013K)

I already asked /akg/, but haven't heard anything back, are the Century M64 RPKs any good?

Thank you Sweden for keeping my ass both warm and safe

That pic gives me some feels.

Does /msg/ have anything to say about Chilean m1912 Steyrs? I may be buying one when im back home. Guys says the owner before him fucked up the hand guard and is asking for $400.

I don't know what brought me to this point, but here I am

Attached: IMG_20181115_1805376.jpg (4896x3672, 3.64M)

That's a good price, they're usually $600ish.

Attached: 20181012_102102.jpg (3966x982, 2.73M)

what are you doing?

Have an M1903A1 Springfield with a "Halloween" barrel (10-31). Came with an electropencilled Remington bolt, I picked up a replacement CC bolt for it.

I remember trading a bunch of M1 and Type 30 bayos for it. Looking at the prices now, the seller got the better end of the bargain

>buy gun
>have to wait a week for it to ship because cavemen still don't know Paypal is a thing
>finally ships
>shipping is delayed due to snow
Fuck everything.

PayPal will yank the money if they find out it was for a gun

You just list it as "friends and family". I've done it plenty of times in the past for guns just fine.

So I asked this before, but are Sweaty Ben's Mosins worth it at 300 bucks? It seems like they are since they come with all the accessories and are refinished so they look nice.

>paying $300 for a mosin

That's the average for one in good condition now. At least if it's a dragoon conversion. Wouldn't pay that much for a war time unless is an M44.

I’d avoid the ones they’re selling currently. They have ungodly import marks, including one on the magazine, and the rear sight leaf has a pin driven through the middle of it so you can’t raise it past 3 (some stupid Ukrainian law led to that).

Local shop has a VKT M39 for $450. Need to get them to remove it from the action, and then if its antique, convince them to sell it to me as one

(pic related)

Attached: IMG_3699.jpg (1753x2761, 1.38M)

Snapped my mosin handguard in half. Feels bad man

I realize that these are already pretty much unobtanium and I've searched the web, but would any of you MSG experts have any leads on an extra mag for one of these?

it's 1888 for antiques, not 95.Either way, fuckin' good price.

I'm fixing up an Erfurt K98az and existence is pain. I've lucked in to most of what I need except the stacking rod. At least when I de-sportered a No.4 the parts were easy to find.

lel, how u like dem jong lohns? sportsmansguide perchase?

lmao dude wtf

probably not going to happen. shops are run usually by fudds. just speaking from experience. i tried to convince a shop about this exact thing when i was buying an 1876 gras single shot rifle and martini enfield. i convinced the manager and owner enough to at least investigate the issue. the googled it and click on the ATF page which pops as one of the first results. conveniently, the ATF page is horribly written, wrong, and implies that rifles are not antique if they use readily available ammo. so good luck to you

atf.gov/firearms/firearms-guides-importation-verification-firearms-national-firearms-act-definitions-antique

>For the purposes of the National Firearms Act, the term “Antique Firearms” means any firearm not intended or redesigned for using rim fire or conventional center fire ignition with fixed ammunition and manufactured in or before 1898 (including any matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap or similar type of ignition system or replica thereof, whether actually manufactured before or after the year 1898) and also any firearm using fixed ammunition manufactured in or before 1898, for which ammunition is no longer manufactured in the United States and is not readily available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade.

see the problem?
>For the purposes of the National Firearms Act, the term “Antique Firearms” means any firearm not intended or redesigned for using rim fire or conventional center fire ignition with fixed ammunition and manufactured in or before 1898

>any firearm not intended or redesigned for using rim fire or conventional center fire ignition with fixed ammunition and manufactured in or before 1898
>conventional center fire ignition with fixed ammunition
>AND manufactured in or before 1898
>AND

thats what happens when you copy and paste legal code while ignoring the very specific punctuation, line and paragraph breaks.
i emailed ATF about this mistake like 8 yrs ago

What... The fuck... Is that dollar value....

now here is the actual federal law code:

gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/USCODE-2012-title18/html/USCODE-2012-title18-partI-chap44-sec921.htm

(16) The term “antique firearm” means—

(A) any firearm (including any firearm with a matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap, or similar type of ignition system) manufactured in or before 1898; or

(B) any replica of any firearm described in subparagraph (A) if such replica—

(i) is not designed or redesigned for using rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed ammunition, or

(ii) uses rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed ammunition which is no longer manufactured in the United States and which is not readily available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade; or

>(16) The term “antique firearm” means—
>(A) any firearm (including any firearm with a matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap, or similar type of ignition system) manufactured in or before 1898; or

so you can see ATF likes to keep their website vague on purpose when it prevents easier acquisition of firearms. im sure im not the only person who has ever emailed them about this convenient misdirection either

Yup

Attached: Screenshot_20180325-221731.png (1080x1920, 474K)

Well, an unmodded Dragoon is still pretty rare... But not THAT rare.

Anything made before 1 Jan 1899 is an antique unless specified otherwise (no Colt Potato Diggers)

It's more than you'd spend at a gun show, but you get a gun you can actually return if it's shit. Personally I think the markings are cool too. If I wasn't already strapped I'd probably have snagged a Dragoon.

>Implying you'll use iron sights past 300 meters anyway.

Also, those are removable pretty easily.

98, not 88.

Attached: SOV - M91-59 Mosin-Nagant.jpg (3506x621, 1.33M)

Sweaty Ben labelled C308 "Rolling Block" actions in the latest e-mail.

Yeah, they are indeed that rare.

>two ultra rare mosins in a single auction
Horey sheet.

>20.5% buyer premium

lmao that guy got fucked

Anyone have experience bidding at Rock Island? How often do guns go for less than the estimated price range?

Better than the fucking 27.5 or whatever percent Morphys is asking.
It happens, but not often. Never hurts to throw a bid out though.

never. they purposefully doctor their estimated range and weigh it low so they can boast to prospective sellers how they achieve high sales. also, everyone who bids on there is an actual boomer who loves to overpay for everything. also, rock island charges the buyer like 20% extra commission, and handling fees for shipping as well as the actual shipping, so include that in your estimate when bidding.

20.5% of $14,500 is $2,972.50. that guy flushed $3k in literal jew fees

>everyone who bids on there is an actual boomer who loves to overpay for everything

luckily boomers aren't especially attracted to AUGs

Where's the best place to look for parts kits?

The internet.

Ok man.

Attached: 20181006_112200.jpg (4032x1068, 3.07M)

Anyone know what a Lee Enfield No. 1 Mk. III* Bayonet is worth? I'm doing some comparisons at the moment between a few and there's one that includes the bayonet. I've seen one for sale at $120 but I don't know if that's horseshit or not.

between $30-$200 depending on condition, maker, type and accesories

if you go on ebay and look the average sold range is about $80-$120

Ring ring. It’s your tinnitus. Just dropping but to say EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

The only guns I see reliably go below estimate at RIA are old shotguns, unless you are in the market for a harder to find gun or if you are like me and love 16 gauge guns this is basically meaningless as most of them are trash. Winchester 94 commemoratives also seem to go near the low end of the estimate since they made 5000000000 of most versions of them.

Surplus however never does typically. they usually put the estimated price lower on these to draw attention to them. Last online auction there was a No1. MkIII in really good shape with a price range of $200-400, it got a shitload of page views and it sold for $850 or so if I recall correctly.

I've won 3 auctions there. I royally overpaid for a K31 a year and a half ago, luckily the K31 has replaced the mosin as the meme surplus gun and is now worth more than I paid for it. I got a fairly rare 1909 Argentine engineers carbine last spring for a decent price since SA mausers aren't as hot right now as other surplus. I overpaid in the last auction for a No2 MkI* revolver also.

You can find interesting guns at RIA and generally they are in fantastic working order, but don't expect any deals. The buyers premium is ok compared to other auction houses, but 18.5% if you pay by card adds up, plus $30 shipping on rifles and $50 or so on pistols also kills any deals. Pic related is the No2 Mk1.

>be me
>live in sweden :(
>want to own a gun but no license
>find out you can own a gun so long as it dosent have a gas-sealed cartrige (like muskets colt armys and canons basically shit from 1800)
>fucking extatic

end of gun dreams

Attached: ladda ned (2).jpg (800x800, 64K)

how? the italian replicas are like $150-$300 here, and thats without the special EU trade pricing

there must be something more going on with the sweden laws. are they restricted to only guns already in the country or something?

Attached: 1452734712597.png (2000x704, 622K)

There's only one solution, escape to America and buy Swedish guns.

Attached: SWE - M96 - Crest.jpg (1359x3153, 1.89M)

nevermind i just read on google about the rules there. the problem is the gun has to actually be made before 1890, replicas based on the desgin are not included. so you have to find actual real working colt revolvers from the 1860s. not a ton still survive in shooting condition and im sure even less are in sweden vs the ones here in america. so you are basicaly having to pay top collector prices. not to mention you cant even use or store black powder without a license. its easier to just get a regular gun license and buy modern guns, seems that muzzleloader shooting is harder in sweden than shooting modern stuff

Gun laws rarely make sense.

Attached: SWE - M38.jpg (4032x2268, 2.63M)

the pre-1864 gun laws made sense

I love them. Got them from ebay a few winters ago.
Here it's pre-1900 without a license but it still has its share of stupidity
>M96 made in 1917 is fine
>Swedish M96 modified to M38 in 1940 is fine
>M38 built as is in 1940? Show me your license, peasant

Attached: IMG_20181114_113703.jpg (1465x829, 317K)

have you shot it? i really like the mild 6.5 and in carbine form its sweet

I should eat some French toast sticks

Many times, though technically it's my wifes (all carbines are). Definitely a lot of fun but I prefer my long 38.

I saw a RAC Berthier at the show last weekend for $175. The rear sight was welded down though and there was something fucky going on with the magwell.

Got my money order in the mail today. I'm paying $415 shipped for a Yugo capture K98k in excellent condition with bayonet, cleaning rod, sight hood, and sling. Pic related is bore. How'd I do?

Attached: 20181112_163019.jpg (5312x2988, 3.52M)

>$400 for a K98 with all the extras
Bretty gud. The only way you could have done better was getting one with the Wehraboo marks.

Good deal in today's marketplace.

Smoothest bolt of all my bolt actions bump.

How much for a good example of a M39 nowadays?

Nigga I saw an ancient fucking musket (first ever usa issued rifle) at milsurp once (he said it was original too)

How

Jews Will do this, and idiots will bid

Uh huh, ok bud.

Attached: Screenshot_20170430-211129.png (1080x1920, 672K)

That's really pretty. Too rich for my blood, but pretty.

got this yesterday for 200 bucks, what do you guys think?
gunbroker.com/item/791277773

Attached: pix201812884.jpg (640x480, 125K)

415 shipped would be a good price for a Yugo, a Yugo capture German rifle makes it a pretty good deal.

About ordinary for a Turk Mauser, if the sights were sporterized maybe a bit high, but it's a Turk so...

Attached: TUR - M38.jpg (2560x1440, 1.01M)

is it Turkish? it said it was german but with a german made ottoman receiver, gonna use it to larp and hunt

You paid $50 too much for some bubba shit.

Attached: 20180318_100215.jpg (3498x1062, 2.44M)

Sounds to me like someone put a German barrel on a Turk receiver. I dunno.

Attached: TUR-CZE - Vz. 98.jpg (3814x751, 1.86M)

it has no front sight my dude

I plan to add a front sight later on
spending 200 bucks plus like 50 for other shit is better than paying 500-700 for something, besides if I really cared about it all that much
about the stock, I could get a competent gunsmith and a stock for it for not much either. I got this because it was a cheap milsurp rifle and its the gun I was wanting, mainly for reenacting purposes and if it's too shit to hunt with, I have another gun I can either use or trade for something else, better to trade than to sell if i'm to be honest

I need to get a better pic soon

Attached: 4619A146-D150-45BB-91EE-A1D6891B631F.jpg (2050x1536, 809K)

That's really super.
I want an R35, they are so cute.

Lebel carbine? Nice.

Here in the Midwest we have a weekly newspaper called “The Farm and Dairy”. You can find it in feed stores, hardware stores and the like. Every issue has auctions with ‘03 Springfields and M1917s.

Attached: 57A67C7E-0A83-4DC7-BAF2-3EFB4124690F.png (206x251, 52K)

My ex-dragoon has a floor plate/follower from a former Westinghouse rifle.

U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, Model of 1917. Numbers matching, original barrel, original blueing, made by Remington in July of 1918. Acceptance marks all over the thing, stock cartouches, and a better than expected barrel for its age/use.

$325 out the door. I'm so fucking stoked, guys.

Attached: 20181116_155321-01.jpg (1159x2065, 754K)

How the fuck do you guys get so lucky? Never seen any good deals where I'm from.

>>gunbroker.com/

Helps to makes friends with those in the biz. My friend gave me a heads-up which is why I was able to hit a home run with this one. His roommate works at the store and somehow got a batch of four from an American Legion Post which had been using them for decades as ceremonial rifles. They've been firing nothing but blanks for several decades and the vets took good care with cleaning them. All those blanks have basically left the bore intact.

FR tho I am amazed at this buy. You can find bubba’d versions of these priced higher than what I paid, and even then you might not get a warhorse like mine that definitely went "over there".

Attached: 20181116_155329.jpg (2560x1440, 878K)

why tho

We posting what deals we've managed to find?
How about a MAS-36 LG-48 for $100?

>gunbroker.com/item/791277773

holy shit the sellers description:
>Interesting old milsurp rifle. It appears to be a German K98 with a German made Ottoman receiver.Barrel is stamped 41 BYS.Receiver stamped Ankara which should be an 8mm upgrade on an original German contract rifle. So I think this is a German K98 and receiver is m1903.Williams peep sight has been added, and engraved trigger housing/mag plate.

>Crisp action.Smooth trigger.Bore is clean and shiny.Someone started to strip stock.Original sights removed.Expect milsurp wear as pictured.Verify caliber before use.

>verify the caliber before use
>verify the caliber because i cant be bothered to explain what i have for sale hopefully someone will take this off my hands soon because i need another case of miller lite

its literally a pawn shop garage sale flip. i bet the seller found it for $50 at some hick garage sale, he doesnt even know what caliber its chambered in? give me a break. dude if you are a novice buyer post questions online to seasoned collectors first if you are too lazy to do research. i do like the hunting engraving on the triggerguard though. maybe just put the gun out of its misery and drop it into a monte carlo stock and drill the receiver for weaver scope mounts, its not like you have a front sight anyway. come here and ask us before buying so you dont get fucked. if you want to larp with an old military mauser, you can find original military condition turkish mausers for $150-$200 all day

>appears to be a German K98
that part made me lol

Are any of the other three left?

did you buy the 500$ one with no mag?

do you even know what caliber it shoots? because the seller sure doesnt. man why did you buy this without coming to us first lol . at least you arent out much money. hope you can find an economical way to attach a front sight, i can tell you from experience those sight collars are a fucking bitch to remove from the barrel. if you dont have an ironclad vise and blow torch and 2 hours worth of sweat and swear words i wish you luck. id probably just buy a $30-$50 turkish 8mm barrel and rebarrel it.

heres one with all the sights intact
