Just picked up as Ruger gunsite scout in .308.

Stainless or blued? How smooth is the action?

Been looking into one of these myself.

Stainless, very smooth bolt, overall built very well in my opinion. I picked it up to be my beat stick, something i can thrash along in the mud, rain, and take through the forest etc..

Second this. Is it really worth the cash you fork over for it, or would you do fine with a Savage Scout?

picked up an mpa defender 5.7x28 carbine for 550

I had the stainless .308 version and it feels like a piece of shit when you actually get to handle it. The bolt was VERY rough, the irons felt cheap and offered a shitty sight picture, I like Ruger’s laminate though.

As someone that owns the gun, you are just a limp wristed bitch, the same who jams a glock from his flamboyant weak grip.

Rifle feels quality, bolt is smooth as fuck when properly lubed, and even then should be handled like a man.

I can’t imagine 5.7 out of that thing, must be interesting

It’s kinda a new gun, .22 conversion for the Beretta

Picked up my M1A Scout Squad yesterday for 1325.

ill be finding out on saturday cant wait to see the penetration its capable of with the 16 inch barrell

Nice. Not recent but pic related is my .308 stainless with 18" barrel, Leupold scout 2.5x, pacific tool & gauge bottom metal, and Riflecraft sling not attached at the moment(acts like a ching sling and made out of thick-ass nylon that feels like cotton canvas webbing). I'm thinking about putting qd mounts in place of the swivel studs.

Very nice, I just completed my scout setup. 16" Gunsite Scout with Burris 2-7x scout scope and a Rhodesian sling by Andy's leather. I enjoy shooting it and was happy that I'm still good the iron sights.

My buddy bought a FN 5-7 the same time I got that Beretta, taking that thing to the range was an experience. Not sure why there aren’t more carbines chambered in it, it’s a great round.

I owned the gun too, it was a piece of shit so It was promptly sold. The bolt was very gritty, no idea how they managed to fuck up the Mauser action, but the again Ruger isn’t exactly known for quality, just their willingness to repair / replace your poorly made gun once it shits the bed. Also worth noting that I’ve shot plenty of bolt actions and never handled something quite as disappointing as the Ruger gunsite scout.

How much?

$435 out the door
Picking it up from the LGS when it arrives on Wednesday or Thursday.

A 1903a3 with shiny 2 groove bore and little wear.

Thinking about finding an old stock for my garand. The bolt, receiver, and barrel on it are all springfield and within a month of each other, might as well pair it with a period stock.

Congrats on a boring gun in a pussy caliber.

>still doesn’t understand there’s negligible difference between the big 3
What’s your carry caliber user?
Post a pick so I know you’re not grasping for straws.

Maybe lemon? Bolt is not the smoothest, but it's pretty good but as someone else mentioned you need to man handle the bolt as you would a nagant.. be rough with it.

Othetwise its flawless and accurate as fuck

what would be the best caliber for lever action guns? that is both good for the capacity and the velocity

850$, australian price. They sell retail $1600.

Winchester model 70 in fuddy aught 6 for 250, and a pistol scope for my contender build.

Still felt cheap, those fucking irons lol.

>i hate cheap feels
>posts a glock

How are you liking it?

I agree about the bolt being rough

Shutup bitch, the bolt is rough as fuck and always will be. Greasing the cocking piece can improve it but it will always be rough. Pick up a Model 70 or Remington 700 and cycle the bolt, and then try a Hawkeye. The Hawkeye bolt will physically stop moving if you cam it slightly while pushing forward and has no mechanical method of preventing this, unlike the other two actions I mentioned which have anti-binding lugs/grooves to prevent it and make it smoother in general.
The cast receiver of the Hawkeye is also gritty and bumpy and doesn't offer a smooth lug raceway for the bolt to travel over which further increases the roughness.

I never had a problem with the bolt on my gunsite, and also looked up many reviews and videos before my purchase. But then again, i'm 6ft1, 94kg and lift weights 4 times a week.. so i'm not a weak gutless cunt and can work a bolt that's not a tikka.

I hear the complaint about the M77-series bolts from time to time, including from NutnFancy, and honestly (not trying to be a dick) i've never found it to be problematic. man-handle it and it works flawless every tine.

Cool story dude I squat 600lb and also have enough experience with bolt actions to know when an action is natively rough. My GSR also failed to eject about 33% of the time. I don't think it's a terrible gun; I just think it's rough as guts and serves the "scout" concept poorly for that reason.

It's a Gen 1 or 2. He's a real collector type, niggy.

Great taste in music at least

Why do you lie about a gun you have never own?

>My GSR
I've owned a Ruger scout you fucking retarded nigger
>Gunsite
>Scout
>Rifle

Ruger scout IS a Hawkeye action

You have never owned one, please stop talking. Scout bolt is the same as the one on the M77 which is a traditional Mauser-style two-lugged bolt. After a couple rounds the scout bolt literally turns into a bolt so smooth it would match the smoothness of a babies bottom, as does lota of bolts on various rifles / makes.

Don't talk about a rifle you have never ownes.

How is the savage 11 scout in comparison?

Attached: images.jpeg-10.jpg (739x415, 29K)

>Scout bolt is the same as the one on the M77
I literally just said that
Ruger scout IS a Hawkeye action

Hawkeye is the 3rd model of M77.
Furthermore, the M77 first model isn't actually a Mauser-style bolt as it is push feed. Only the MkII and Hawkeye resemble a Mauser bolt (poorly)

>muh mauser -style
Design of a gun =/= production of a gun. The end-product from Ruger is rough. Not unusably rough but certainly more rough (i.e. bolt lift stiffness, bolt push/pull smoothness) than other rifles (especially a Model 70, which is also Mauser-style).

Have you ever picked up a rifle other than an M77?

That fucking plastic spacer in the stock ruined the whole thing.

Practically, .357 will do everything you feasibly can.

.44 or bust though

I bought one brand new from buds for $632.

I thought I got a steal, when I handled it, it barely felt like a $600 gun, let alone ~$900 one. The bolt being rough was my main complaint.

>manhandle the bolt user, don't be a bitch... its just a littl rough...

You seriously compared a $800 modern production rifle to a $150 soviet stick that shoots, (that's also known for a shitty bolt).

If you dipshits would put slight downward pressure on the bolt as you push it forward it will run smoothly instead of sperging out and trying to throw the bolt through the barrel

I have the 5.56 model and I couldnt be happier. Really looking to get the .308 in left handed for an all purpose rifle I'll take with me everywhere.

Nice! Wish I could afford a M1A but I got the poorfag edition: mini-14
