the vz is one of those guns where they have a strange cult following, i mean it has a small aftermarket, little to no good optics solutions (can only run a rds, any magnified optic will cause ejection issues) more complex gas system than ak, more expensive mags than ak's, huge ejection port which allows more ingress for debris than a ak. tilting lock, which on paper is less mechanically accurate than a rotating bolt

AK’s weren’t $400 or I would have gotten one in stead. I never planned on putting magnified optics on it. The aftermarket is small but I have modified everything I want except the trigger. I only know of one person who makes those and I heard mixed things. The piston system is pretty simple. I don’t know much about AK’s so I guess it’s more complex but it’s not exactly kraut space magic. The ejection port complaint is valid but it’s not that much more vulnerable than an SKS or m14.

I don’t like to compare it to other guns, I just appreciate what it is. And somehow the ugly bastard grew on me to where I actually like how they look now.

And Czechia has a bigger gun culture as well. That's half the battle. Gun control laws are easy to enact when most of the people don't care.
