They probably would have added an i

were there any 9mm webley prototypes?

Maybe a more common cartridge. A webley in .38 or .357 would be awesome.

You got $10,000?

What about .44-40

>A webley in .38
So a Webley Mk IV/Enfield No2?

The MK4 can't handle a .357, can it?

No as far as I know Webleys were only chambered in .455 and .380(.38/200)

So hypothetically they could have made another version with a strengthened frame to handle .357 in the mid-thirties?

Eh, it would have needed a beastly topstrap/latch

Is that the reason break action went obsolete?

Pretty much, they were handy when black powder was a thing but for the most part they couldn’t handle higher pressure loads, hence .45 Schofield and .455 Webley being relatively weak for .45s. The MkIV and Enfield No2 were in .38/200 British which is just .38 S&W with a heavier bullet.

better metallurgy letting it shoot contemporary smokeless loads

I've seen a one-off .455 with it's barrel and cylinders lined for .38spl

There is such a thing that is the modern version of the Webley.

andersonwheeler.co.uk/the-gun-room/revolver/

Known as the "Mark VII", it improves on basically everything. Comes in 7-shot .357 Mag. The best revolver out of the UK, and ironically Brits can't buy it.

I don't think that's possible. The .38 S&W Cartridge(and thus the webley's cylinder only has an OAL of 1.25in or so. Since even the shorter OALs for .38 special will be around 1.45in.

Unless you're using custom handloaded wadcutters or something- in which case you might as well just reload .38 S&W / .38-200

There was an interview with the maker, and he said basically 35-40% of his exports are to the US, another 20% to other commonwealth nations (Canada, NZ, Australia, etc.) and the rest to rich Middle Easterners.

Even the metric designations point to it being way too long. 38spc is 9.1x29mm while 38S&W is 9x20mm

It was a .455 Webley with its chambers and barrel sleeved for 38
.455- Overall length 1.460/1.230 in (37.1/31.2 mm

This is some weird dong expanding going on, but by God it's going

they all become Webley-Fosberys in .357/.38

Makes me wonder if they ever started producing them. All the information out there is several years old and there hasn't been anything new or any video of one firing

I wish someone make a Webley reproduction that didn’t require several pallets of grey poupon to buy

I've had to repair several Webleys The QC on the internals are shit and there is a small part that links the flat spring to the hammer that snaps with normal usage, w/the exception of the SMLE, which took 40 years to get right, the Brits are truly shit when it comes to weapon design

Do the empty shell casings fly out like a break action shotgun?

of course

Did they ever even exist outside of s few prototypes? Wiki says it never entered production.
