How Jow Forums is "The Man In The High Castle"?

I'm curious what you think.

First two seasons were pretty decent until Amazon realized that people wished they lived in a Nazi society. Bezos turned the Nazi evilness up to 11 in the third season.

Every guy I know who's seen it says they got chills from the Reichstag scene.

youtube.com/watch?v=2UFbSDbdt_o&bpctr=1552356628

>people wished they lived in a Nazi society

literally what about the show leads people to feel that way

I didn't say that.

If anything, I feel it's the greatest anti-Nazi show ever made.

And I'll tell you WHY.

It shows that even the Nazis would ultimately lose under a Fascist regime. They'd lose their children to their own laws against genetic defects, they'd be forbidden to explore any "deviant" sexual interests, they'd constantly die in power struggles, they'd be tortured if they stepped out of the party line because "the party is always right".

Nazis would ultimately hate the very prison they built for themselves. When you run out of "others" to kill, you turn your long knives inward.

The show boldly argues even Nazis would find Nazism sucks, in the end.

Seriously, anyone who thinks this show is pro-Nazi isn't paying attention to the actual details.

But getting back on topic, I felt the technology and uniforms still looked too WWII for a show set in the 1960s. Nearly 2 decades is a long time.

Fuck you, world war teo esthetics is fucking better than zoomer shit we have today

>two*

>Wished they lived in a Nazi society

Yes, a society where even Nazis suffered repeatedly (lost their kids, got tortured, murdered in power struggles, had to hide their sexual interests, etc.). And this is in peacetime no less.

What a "great place" to be a Fascist.

>this Jewish fanfiction is why fascism bad
lol

I'm just saying that even an alternate 1960s, the uniforms would be modified more to represent a natural evolution in design.

The "American Reich" and the "Homeland" wear the same uniform? I don't buy it.

what the fuck even is this? Jow Forums shit?

Because power struggles, anti-genetic defect laws, ideological disagreements, and "forbidden" sexuality will totally vanish with the wave of a magic wand once "the glorious regime" comes to power?

People don't work that way. They'll fight each other when they can't fight anyone else.

It'll be just like the Soviet Union, cannibalizing itself.

Well, it wasn't meant to be. First reply derailed it from the beginning, lol. I wasn't expecting Jow Forums to show up this fast.

That really bugged me. The show should have gone the Warsaw Pact approach with uniforms. That way we'd stop mixing up the German and American characters.

Eh, our timeline we were still using the M1 steelpot and a magazine fed M1 Garand at that same point, only real aesthetic differences were our warplanes, tanks and ships. We’ve seen the krauts are now using an NVA style camp pattern for their combat uniform, and even though in reality they likely would have switched to something like the postwar NVA helmet it’s not unreasonable to imagine that with the war over, a more practical helmet was spurned in favor of the iconic stahlhelm, especially with hitler still alive as it was him who held it back from being implemented in the first place.
This. Some people I know who watched the show took “oh, there’s no locks on the doors here” as “it’s an incredibly safe neighborhood” and not “the authorities are well within their right to enter your home at any time.”
We saw brownshirts in episode one using MP40s and Kar98ks. I imagine the Reich prefers to keep its auxiliary units in conquered territories relatively poorly equipped. Capable of oppressing the local population, but easily outgunned by main Reich forces.

The only real way to disprove an ideological system fully is to show it won't work for its own followers (hence the show). That's what brought down the Soviet Union. Communists gave up on Communism.

Going back to conquered territories, I really wish the show had driven home the differences between "The American Reich" and "Nazi Germany". That the latter was far better equipped.

We did get a glimpse of that, when the German-Nazis bluntly declared they'd just nuke American cities. That suggests a frightening level of military power that the American-Nazis can't compete with.

Heck the American Reich uniform could have been butchered surplus G.I uniforms, "ideologically-retrofitted" with Jerry insignia.

Seriously, the costuming department had a lack of imagination.

I’m pretty sure we saw some border guards at the neutral zone in episode 1 wearing wartime Wehrmacht style tunics, implying that they do wear surplus, just of the german variety. Kind of similar to how West Germany aped the GI look for a while.

That makes sense. The Germans would dump their excess outfits on the conquered territories to cut costs.

I really disliked that the only way you could tell Nazi officials of the American Reich vs Nazi Germany (to my knowledge) was the arm-band (the American Flag's stripes fused with the Nazi one versus only the Nazi flag with solid red band). And the armband isn't always visible in a shot.

Here's the arm-band BTW (adding to the confusion is the fact only part of the armband has the stripes. If you look at it from the wrong angle, you could mistake the origin country of the character since you're looking at the red band part).

Germany lost the war on June 22nd 1941

Japan lost the war on December 7 1941

Anything other than this is retarded and can never be realistic or immersive.

Having read "Starship Troopers", the movie is an abomination, lol. Even though the book is naive about human nature (people would still screw each other over in the new "utopia", over something as basic as fighting over the same woman. It's what we do).

I mean service guarantees citizenship. But humanity stays humanity, which means infighting. IRL "Starship Troopers" would be less "LOTR" and more "Game Of Thrones". You really think Sky Marshals don't fight for the top job just because Heinlein told them this was his special snowflake utopia world, lol?

>"You can't fight in here! This is the war room!"

>germany owns karelia
>greece owns eastern thrace
>belgium still exists
>somaliland in 2 parts for ??? reasons
>manchukuo gone
>mengkukuo apparently PART OF CHINA

what the fuck is going on and who made this map

Germany and Japan have conquered the majority of the world (and America somehow still exists....in complete isolation).

Don’t people frequently get executed (by other people) in Starship Troopers?

An AWOL soldier killed a girl, caught, and was dishonorably discharged right before he was executed. They personally torn his uniform to shreds, in front of him and publicly.

>contrarian neckbeard fanfiction is why Nazism is good

The story goes that the allies made literally every mistake. It also assumes that Stalin wasn’t preparing to invade

The way Japan was portrayed was very underwhelming. They basically haven't advanced at all since the 1930's in the show. I want to see jet fighters and supercarriers and all of that fun stuff

That bothered me a lot. Japan remaining backward struck me as very baffling. They would have grabbed as many scientists as possible when dividing the spoils. Not to mention Japan would constantly feel the need to compete with Germany, for reasons of security.

Also, they missed an opportunity to dress the Imperial Army in a manner more similar to the Imperial Navy in coloration.

The drab brown uniforms looked so crude.

What is Nazism? Do you mean National Socialism? If so, this is not the only form of fascism.

Surprisingly the show never introduced ideological disagreements between the American Reich and Nazi Germany as a way to create dramatic tension. It would mirror the arguments the Soviet Union had with its various satellite states, as well as within its own borders (Maoism, Titoism, Trotskyism, that weird Albanian-ism whose name I can't remember, etc.)

I imagine the American Reich would begin to bicker over details with Nazi Germany after 15-something years.

It's a basic law of empires. Client states eventually begin to balk at their overbearing "head zone" telling them what to do.

I mean no matter how much the American Reich emulated Nazi Germany, sooner or later they'd want their own say as citizens of "The Greater Nazi Reich" and not just denizens of a conquered puppet-state.

It's why a "thousand year Reich" is impossible. Infighting is inevitable, as different figures and territories argue over ideology among other things.

Conquered nations don't forget they're conquered.

Mexico is so irrelevant to the world even Nazis dont care to take them over.

they're an endemic epidemic now

Technically the Nazis despised both America and Canada as well, considering them incapable of understanding "high culture".

Hitler was a creature who consistently underestimated the New World, and the blunt reality the North American continent was destined to replace the European Empires.

Contrary to Jow Forums's delusions, Germany would not have been warm and fuzzy with us. We'd be a servile puppet-state, our orders mailed to us from an ocean away in Berlin. Taxation without representation. When we complain, we get slapped down over it.

This is the most likely outcome: a Fascist empire dissolving into the anarchy of Nationalism-fueled civil war.

>Conquered nations don't forget they're conquered.

Hence the genocide

>anarchy of Nationalism-fueled civil war.

Isn’t that America 2020?

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Which failed to stop the Communist Bloc from fracturing over, and over, and over again. They couldn't maintain the act they were one big happy family.

Eventually an American Nazi regime would openly break with Nazi Germany, "officially" over ideology but in actuality just wanting more power.

Same reason I roll my eyes at "Red Dawn". If America became a Communist state, eventually it would break away from Soviet control and become another China (i.e a ideological and military counterweight to the Soviet Union).

We'd condemn the Soviets as being insufficiently Communist, lol.

>ARKANSAS WILL NEVER BECOME A VASSAL STATE TO YOU KRAUT FUCKERS
Ozar/k/ here. I chuckled a bit but yeah. Fuck them. We shoot 'em full o' holes and fill 'em full o' lead

Er Ist Wieder Da is one of the best and funniest films that I have ever seen.

Seriously doubt the us would give up like they did but 8/10 for entertainment. I really like smith tho

I loved that movie. I went into it believing it would be a waste of time because >lol german """"humor"""", turns out the krauts are actually pretty funny.
Based

I get what they were going for with the Nazi Lesbians (muh envy of the "Mad Men" wine glass-flirting scene), but really? They're blatantly hitting on each other in Nazi-controlled territory? Why not fly to Cuba or something & make up excuses to discreetly meet?

I refuse to believe the blonde propagandist and the black-haired journalist chick would be that stupid. It shouldn't be too difficult to Lesbian-"Brokeback Mountain" with their connections.

I predict he'll finally have enough of the Germans. They've been dropping hints he'll balk. He's already down one family member. Now he may lose more....if he doesn't rebel.

There is only one execution in both the book and first movie, and they're both for murderers.

I dont think the Heinlein was trying to make a a purely peaceful utopia, but rather a political and societal system where decisions were being made by people who worked and earned citizenship, a invested interest in the welfare of society at large.

One of my favorite videos on Youtube discusses this way better than I could.

youtube.com/watch?v=kVpYvV0O7uI&list=FLLK5jqDCk84GbGb7FSCOrGw&index=5&t=17s

I agree. Especially how they said "We have to stop the Nazis!" in season 1&2 and in season 3 it changed to "We have to stop the facist right!"
Stupid as fuck

It looks like... it strayed from the book quite a bit, right?

Attached: kdick.jpg (1000x1265, 152K)

Honestly Imperial Japan comes across as far more civilized than the "Greater Nazi Reich" on the show.

If anything, the show didn't show enough of how brutal Japan could get.

give me a quick rundown on this animu

It's a Philip k dick novel turned TV series.
Surely you've read some of PKD's work.
Surely.

"Total Recall", "Screamers"....he's probably one of the most ubiquitous sci-fi influences many people haven't heard of.

Well the blonde chick basically had smoke blown up her ass from birth about how special she was because of the whole lebensborn thing. Not too hard to imagine that would make someone retardedly cocky

No, it's actually retarded and would not work. Your comparison to the Soviet Union doesn't make sense for the world of Man in High Castle.

You really think an American Nazi regime couldn't eventually break from Nazi Germany, when the Greater Nazi Reich is clearly overstretched, complacent and distracted by Imperial Japan?

The American Reich clearly had no shortage of American Nazis.

Considering she was inexplicably backing a regime that was systematically oppressing lesbians like herself, I have zero sympathy for her.

Her hypocrisy was astonishing.

>lesbians are retarded
yeah, makes sense now

>“the authorities are well within their right to enter your home at any time.”
what are no knock raids retard

yeah, you can stop posting this here and on /tv/ now. Thank you

One could easily argue the show was actually mocking Lebensborn.

One got his ass kicked by a Trade Minister, another got capped by his own arrogance, and the last was so smart she paraded her own sexuality in front of the Nazis.

Not exactly impressive for "the future of the master race".

3 idiots.

TLDR version: Lebensborn were Nazi Hippies.

mUh AeSThEtIcS

Aaaand that's pretty much it

Honestly we really do need sleeker uniforms these days, at least for ACTUAL combat personnel and not the people who don't see front-line battle.

The fighters should get the best outfits, so everyone knows who served in battle is.

You see front-line battle, you get to wear the uniform.

>police (or military)
>dissuaded by locks
are you retarded

How does that make sense aside from literally muh aesthetics
Why would the government bother to spend excess money on mobile meat shields

Because people who fight in combat should be recognized to the public on sight; instead of ending up homeless, PTSD-ridden and unemployed.

Uniforms are more than just "aesthetics", they convey something.

A combat uniform announces to everyone else this person was shot at for several years and suffered for their country.

Most people don't care whether you shot someone
If anything it makes it easier to harass soldiers, as ethnic groups can ID who probably helped shoot their cousin

But for real why would the government spend money on people who are intentionally expendable with relatively minimal essential skills (especially in a conventional war)

I'm talking about a uniform not designed for combat. It shows combat veteran status.

And your cynicism is extremely offensive considering how many veterans get screwed already. They're swept under the rug enough as is by our society, and I say that as a civilian who has never served.

"people intentionally expendable". Wait till the volunteer system finally collapses and you get drafted. This won't go on forever.

No, uniforms are mainly for cohesion and team building. Anything else is fluff.

"Starship Troopers" was right. Everyone should fight in a military. The non-combat roles can be handled by trained civilians.

MP with combat experience. Don't need to be drafted. Still don't want a combat uniform.
There are already medals and patches and shit that you can stick to your distinctive uniform that show your combat veterancy or whatever other fucking snowflake distinction you need.
The uniform is a unifier and shouldn't be tailored to people because we've shot at people who don't make in a year what we make in a month.

I should clarify "combat uniform" means a distinctive variant. BDUs are what they are, and I don't mind them.

Lol this
The Nazi world was comfy AF
Weapons wise movie is gay
Nazis would never have believed Japan had a nuke just from a film.
No seismic shock, no Intel, no unexplained radiation spikes, etc.
Nazis should have erased Japs at end of season 2 and made a great happy ending.

>be just like the Soviet Union, cannibalizing itself.

Yeah but white people will survive. That's the importance and only real fight

Uh huh, because you can't conceive of a world where white people are just one group among many.

You talk about survival, but what really motivates you is power. You don't want to lose it, or share it. You want to have it all for yourself and screw over everyone else.

back to /leftypol/

Also, if a totalitarian regime that regularly torments its own population is your definition of survival, then you have very low standards of what constitutes living.

Survival is not enough. I want to live, not just exist.

I'm not afraid of the new dynamics of losing majority status. I'm intrigued by the possibilities.

You don't want survival, you want control. And if the utterly damaged Trump is your best hope, God help you.

What do you consider living?
Mindless consumerism, degeneracy eroding society and slowly disintegration of identities?

nailed it in one huh? go and stay go

I don't consider being endlessly oppressed by my own government an acceptable way to live.

What's the point of whining about "Muh Freedom" if you'll just happily give it all up to be oppressed, lol?

A strong government is bad, period. There are no exceptions to this. Yet you fools clamor for a powerful and overbearing tyranny.

I know the book it's based on, but I get tired of the "What if Nazis won" fiction that ends up with this hyperadvanced superscience nonsense. It becomes easy for people to think it's pro-nazi when you have colonies in the solar system fucking what, 20 years after WW2? really hard to argue that it's not omlette breaking a few eggs to have a civilization that is intra-solar from being terrestrial-bound in just 2 decades.

A lunar colony I can vaguely understand as the US could have done one in the 70s but don't they have Venus and Martian colonies too?

Honestly I'm way more fascinated by the potential hell that could result from a split within the Fascist world, over ideological differences.

The satellite states of the Nazi Reich begin to demand a greater say in how things are run, and why not? Are they not citizens of the Reich too? Nazi Germany balks, since they're "The Homeland".

Things rapidly devolve into an existential argument over the rights of Nazi citizens outside Nazi Germany, and violence breaks out between the Fascist states.

It's the classic, and repeat, problem of empires. How much freedom should the satellite states have, versus the center?

It would basically boil down to two viewpoints.

Nazi Germany: "I conquered the world, so I own it. You do what we say, no matter how much you emulate it."

All other Nazi nations: "We are now part of the Reich, and as thus, we are entitled to the same rights as citizens in Nazi Germany. There should be no second-class citizens if we're all deemed Aryan."

You can't reconcile those conflicting viewpoints, so you get war.

To be honest, we already have a modern example of this. Mainland China versus all other Chinese regions.

Mainland China insists "we're all Chinese" to them, but it's clear it wants to be the sole authority on what that constitutes. It happily oppresses Tibet, Taiwan and Hong Kong to ensure that remains so.

So there would be historic precedent to back up this possible alternate future happening.

(Post-script: even before you start, by "Chinese regions", I mean places claimed by Mainland China to be theirs)

Exactly. The unbelievable geopolitical complexity and intrigues of the court for a fascist world are always marginalized in favor of ve ar super duper super men with flying cars and space-cities youtube.com/watch?v=UEHuWs7SYZw

We don't get what you mention, or the praetorian intrigues of the SS, or the antagonism between the SS and the Wehrmacht, or the attempts in the peace to stifle Christianity in favor of the SS-Blood occultism. Or the inevitability of "Solidarity struggle" Hucksters to always end up the pig in animal farm: All Aryans are equal, but some are more Aryan than others. Not just in the aformentioned colonial to primary Reich (They'd shit on the "Aryans who left Arya" like the Visigoths (Spanish), Goths (Italians), Franks (French/Belgians/Dutch) and Anglo-Saxons (English). While if they were adroit at it the Scandinavians might poise themselves to claim they are the purer strain) but also within the primary Reich. And with time invariably lebenstraum Colonialists in the Russian steppe would begin to develop their own identity and not always agree with the interests of the Reich. You can look to the pied-noirs relationship vis-a-vis Metropolitan France for a sense of that.

>I know the book it's based on
The you know it's absolutely nothing like the show?

Correct. When the Nazis run out of "Others" (or at least have trouble finding any more easily), they start to turn inward to "perfect their society". And inevitably, that results in new arguments over what constitutes an Aryan.

Soon as the war ends, the new one's seeds are planted. They can no longer ignore the disagreements over "who is more Aryan than thou".

It doesn't help when the Lebenstraum declare independence from the Reich. Colonists are so "annoyingly self-dependent".

Contrary to what Jow Forums thinks, a Nazi-dominated world would be a multitude of ethnic factions constantly competing for dominance and supremacy. And all of them well-armed.
