MiG-31 is the reason why Blackbird was scrapped in the end. With the presence of MiG-31, US command decided that it's way too cost ineffective to keep them running while they can be shot down by the soviets at any moment now. If anything, MiG-31 literally killed SR-71, just not in a direct way.

theres more aerodynamic differences in shape rather than being a rocket due the fact the X15 has to maintain hypersonic flight rather than it being a rocket over the SR71 which is a gigantic marfan winged slug in comparison maintaining a pissant mach3 as it gets out of dodge as soon as a mig shows up
