I wanted to start a Rhodesia thread because I recently started working for a new company and met a man who started the same time I did, who happened to be in the Selous Scouts during the war.
I had a chance to ask him about Rhodesia and his eyes lit up, and he was more than happy to tell me stories about what it was like. I figured you guys would appreciate that.
He told me he carried an rpd during the war because he liked having a machine gun but a lot of his friends carried Fal's because of their range.
He also told me about how they would go from camp to camp and kill everyone, eat their food, restock and move on. Apparently they had an order, if they came across anyone with an ak or sks, they were told to smoke em. He also verified something I had read on Jow Forums about the sights on rifles being sighted to the max because the guns 'shot harder'.
Again, thought you guys would appreciate it. I can't wait for him to come back for his next hitch since he's off for the week. He's a hell of a guy, and has amazing stories.
One of the things my new coworker told me was pretty wild. He said he is glad he lived but it wasn't very hard to live because the Africans couldn't aim for shit and would just spray and pray basically.
This guy is one of my favorite coworkers and we've barely had a chance to work together in the last month and a half. He knows his shit when it comes to guns too, I don't think he's a boomer in a way we think about them here in America. I do feel bad for him because his country was destroyed before his eyes.
Not Rhodesia but I met a guy in South Africa who's father was in the mechanized infantry during the Angola Bush war in the 80s and he told me that if a prisoner refused to talk, they would tie the prisoner to the front their Ratel and drive around
