AK parts and parts kits are pretty available. Optics are easy to attach and there is a decent market for triggers/muzzle devices/ect. Plus I can use 17CPR soft points to shoot piggos and durr. Technically, if you take the militia preamble of the second amendment to indicate its entire purpose, then all members of the militia should be required to have a standardized, reliable weapon in a standardized caliber. Since the AR-15 in 5.56 is compatible with what the actual military uses, it's the best candidate.
