For an all around shotgun (home defense, hunting deer/boar/pests, shtf, fun, whatever) and likely my only long gun for a very very long time, what size shotgun should I get? I was thinking the 18.5 would be perfect for home defense, but the 20 inch holds 2 more rounds. Will that extra 1.5 inches make or break maneuverability in the home?
I already have my concealed carry, so this would act as a home defense gun, as well as be my only other gun for a while.
Looking at the Maverick 88/Mossy 500 series primarily.
Mossberg barrels are (almost) universally interchangeable on pumps of the same gauge. That being said, they offer package deals for the 500, so you can get a 26 inch barrel with a discounted 18.5in barrel included.
Well, you'll know the difference in the quality of the action, the fit and finish, and most super expensive sporting shotguns have a cast for better shooting (hunting and clays).
Honestly shit you wouldn't notice unless you professionally shoot clays or swap between the models often.

Notably, the 20 inchers are not compatible with the 18.5/28s because the magazine tube is longer.
Get the 20 inch.

Get a KSG or KS7 too. I have a Mossberg 500, and a KSG, KSG is what I use for HD. You'll know what I mean when you've handled one.
This. You give up 2 rounds but the gun is more versatile for sporting applications. That 28" comes in handy if you want it to double as a cheap skeet/trap/bird hunting shotgun. The combo lets the shotgun do pretty much everything you will ever need a shotgun to do.
If you intend for it to be strictly an HD shotgun, the 20" is a little better for capacity. If you want to do other shit, the combo is miles better. It still has an effective capacity of 6 shots (5+1) which is not bad.

Where do I find the furniture on this?

>Will that extra 1.5 inches make or break maneuverability in the home? not necessarily I use a big 590a1, but my apt layout is so open that turning corners w/ it doesn't create hangups
eh, idk, anyone you know have a comparable gun you could handle in your house?
>Will that extra 1.5 inches make or break maneuverability in the home? No, but the extra weight of shells up front makes a gun unbalanced. Which is fine if its a strictly hd gun. However the 20 inch cant change barrels. This is a huge deal if you intend to shoot clays or skeet. You want a long barrel on a shotgun for anything thats not home defense. A 20 inch is not a good all around gun its a dedicated home defense gun. It can be used as a servicible all arond gun but if you have the option of other shotguns you wont want to use it.
He's not wrong tho. For the price of whatever tactical model 500 OP is looking at he can get an AR15 that's better for everything and has cheaper ammo.

I got one with a 26 inch barrel (as I recall) and then got the 18.5 for $80. Best of both worlds. I keep the shorter one on it and pull out the longer one for shooting skeet and such.
Jonathan Allen
>better for everything imo, no
we could go back and forth about this for days, but I see where you're coming from some good points
Mossberg 590A1 and/or Benelli M4. 18.5 inches to 20 inches for maximum usefulness.
Camden Scott
The only thing ARs aren't good for are bird hunting or if he's in a state with caliber restrictions above .224" or a ban state. Right now if you can have one long arm in America it should be an AR15. I say this as a huge HK-fag.
Elijah Wright
I'd rather not argue the 12ga vs ar beating a dead horse as far as I'm concerned you do make some good points
>Somthing that is 1.5" longer can hold 2 more shells that are each 2 3/4" long. I think you need to do more research user...

You sound like such a massive faggot.

But it's true dipshit

Sure if you discount make, model, mag tube extentions etc. The point is there is alot more to it than just stock mag tube capacity on a factory gun. Instead of typing for 4 hours to give him shotgun 101, i simply said he has to do more research since he's worried about trival things.

Were there options to suppress a shotgun in 1980 when this movie takes place or would it have to be a custom job?
