Looking at a few mass shootings, it seems best that once you hear gun shots you should start running away as fast as you can zigzagging through different areas and buildings and continuously moving away. Do not assume the gun shots won't involve you or come your way, just leave the scene immediately and then leave the next scene too and then the one after that until you don't here gun shots and encounter law enforcement.
If you are not running all you area really doing is hoping the gunmen doesn't enter your area and he is probably just going to stalk random common areas looking for victims.
At the same time you have to try to avoid being a panicked animal and becoming part of a stampede or running into traffic.

The shooter was retreating to reload, the bullets he used to gun down the charger would have been discarded had the guy never ran at him.
If instead he picked up a kid and ran outside, then he'd have saved someone.
He almost got him off his feet and sent the shooter's magazines scattering all over the ground (didn't test his gear) and then the shooter shot him. It threw him off his game for sure, it's fairly obvious with how he starts getting sloppy and disorganized and just wasting time from then on, even to the point where he misses out on doing something he had planned (setting the mosque on fire) because he thinks the cops are about to arrive. If one more person had tackled him at that time they probably would've got him.

I've tripped and gone flying with fully loaded kit, a lot of pouches will keep them in. I think it was more of an oversight on his part than a conscious decision. His reloads were slow too and his double mags clearly ended up being a meme compared to just having more singles. Not bringing in the gas can his first trip was poor planning, too.
