No idea how much a scar is but that les Paul was around $2500. Worth every penny

The DD uppers used to have a stupid .08”+ gas port. The proper size for a MK18 is closer to .070, as was specifically chosen as a compromise for suppressed and unsuppressed use.

Overgassed is better than under, from a reliability standpoint. Easier to correct on your own also.

Understood, and am also familiar with the various non AGB/Port size fixes to overgassing(like gasbuster type CH, DIY silicon thing, vents in FA, buffer/spring tuning) but would prefer something that addresses the source and not bandaid type fixes.

Lower is already taken care of, so looking specifically for the upper itself, and wondering what specific models from what makers (BCM? meme y/n? DD?, etc....) to look at further, and if said specific models actually list the gas port spec or if its just a visual similarity to MK18s so they can make money off of clonefags.

Most manufacturers dont list their gas port specs but some do. Ive had most tell me when i call, only one who wouldnt was Noveske and i hear BCM wont either. Karl Lewis was the primary brain behind the MK18 so Id be willing to bet that their gas port is sized properly or close to, and i know the 10.5” MRPs gas port is around .073 which would be just slightly overgassed

Does anybody know if you can remove a D-ring/slip ring by removing the gas tube and barrel from the receiver, then taking apart the slip ring while it's still on the barrel? I ordered a GAU-5 Upper with a pinned and welded flash hider but it has the A2-style angled slip ring and I want to replace it with a flat one, but I don't want to have to take off the front sight and reweld the muzzle. Anybody know if this is possible?

The slip ring come off towards the receiver, not towards the front sight retard. Assuming it could fit over the barrel, it should be able to come off without removing the FSB.

Would a "properly" sized gas port on a SBR run the risk of short stroking if firing Wulf/underpowered ammo without the suppressor or is that not a big concern?

SBRs tend to have excessive carrier velocity to begin with which is why you don want a massively oversized gas port. Especially if youre going to add a suppressor to the mix.
I have 2 10.5s. Both gas ports are under .075” and I have 0 reliability issues, that said i dont shoot steel case.
If youre stressing about all this gas stuff and then just going to shoot trash ammo through it you may want to reconsider your needs/goals.
