Is .338 Norma Mag a viable substitute for 7.62 NATO?

Is .338 Norma Mag a viable substitute for 7.62 NATO?

no

Yeah.

It depends on what youre doing. The gun isnt meant to replace the m240 for most uses, just fill a niche

I'm going to have to go with Yeah.

Honestly, let's give it a fucking go.

The machine gun/crew serve weapon is technically the killing power that's organic to an infantry platoon, makes sense to increase its ability to reach out even further.

I fail to see the point.

If that's the case then we should just say fuck it and use MG42's chambered in 50BMG

The big problem here is just how fucking expensive this would end up being. The LWMMG is a fucking ridiculously stupid idea, both for that reason, and because it's trying to use a medium machine gun as a precision rifle. It makes no damn sense at all.

this thing looks god awful heavy it bad enough tha soldiers lug around the 240, this thing is going to be a pain in the ass to carry

That's dumb.

Not as light as a 240L, but it's pretty fucking light for an MG slugging out .338 rounds. Only thing it loses out against the 240B is sheer volume of rounds per pound.

> majority of long range casualties produced with MG
> make precision MG
it's honestly not that hard, guys

Honestly I think the whole not being able to carry as much ammo thing would lose fights. But idk, I've never been in any firefights. 7.62 can already go out to 600yds easy tho right?

You're dumb

>substitute for 7.62 NATO?
no, it's supposed to be a substitute for .50BMG that SOF teams can actually carry up mountains when they need longer range firepower but can't bring a vehicle. It will never replace 7.62 because it isn't intended to, and because the army shits a ton of rounds through our 240's every year so we value barrel life a lot

No, pic related is the only viable substitute for GPMGs, LMGs, and HMGs

This is the only actual answer in this whole thread. Too bad it'll get buried because this a weekly bait repost.

Nope. Unless the .338 Norma can be supplied anywhere around the world. Plus, 7.62mm round can be found/manufactured anywhere and without risk of running out.

It should be.

Smart choice.

the mg42 is shit

Why do you need an 11 pound tripod/?

Clearly we need an mg42 in 270 Winchester.

PKM in 6.5 Creedmore is ultimate gpmg

you are shit

Looks like barrel life would be much shorter for 338.
