Is it possible for the shit to hit the fan so hard that gunpowder weapons stop being commonly used and we revert back to stabbing each other with spears and swords?

Only if we all run out of ammunition at the same time. Which seems unlikely.

Probably not, OP.

If industrial civilization falls(and it wouldn’t ever comeback if it did), say due to a very severe pandemic, then yes.

Pretty sure humans made enough bullets to last atleast 25 years without a major war

we're in too deep. people would find a way to blow shit up. probably some type of bullet based off of manure or mentos/coke.

Yes, complete catabolic collapse.

Yes and no.
Now that the cat is out of the bag people will always seek out firearms for their overwhelming superiority in combat, but its certainly possible that society could collapse to the point that we are forced to revert back to black powder weaponry because we lose the ability to produce cordite.

Any catastrophe so absolute that it wiped out everyone who held even the most basic knowledge of making even rudimentary firearms would pretty much ensure there wouldn't be another generation to revert back to swords and spears.

I hope so, that would be pretty metal.

If you are asking for a future in which nier and nier automata could happen, then yes, I fucking hope that it's possible.

Theoretically speaking we could have a massive global societal collapse (think world-wide pandemic with 90%+ kill rate) and after the existing stock of ammo is depleted most people could lack the knowledge and ability to reload ammo, make gunpowder, etc. If you look at Star Wars most of the galaxy is very much a culture in decline. The shipyards on Corellia can keep manufacturing star ships but they don't have any way of replacing the manufacturing tech or reengineering the craft if something were to go horribly wrong. They know just enough to keep the factory going and maintain the status quo, but little else. Technology is constantly being salvaged and re-purposed because while most can use the technology few actually understand how any of it works. Realistically however it's very unlikely without some intervening force or authority that outlaws firearms. In Alita: Battle Angle all guns are banned by decree of Zalam, a massive floating city above Iron with unparalleled technology supremacy.

Precisely this.

You can make powder with your piss and shit. So, no, that's not happening any time soon.

You been reading Dies the Fire or something, man?

Unlikely, but it also depends on what part of the world. There's more guns than people in the US, so it's pretty much out of the question there. Even then, it's not that difficult to make homemade firearms. They won't be pretty, and there's a small chance they blow your hand off, but it would still be better than trying to run at someone with a sword.
Even if the shortage was in powder rather than weapons, people would still figure out makeshift propellants.

factors in this beynsian trainwreck
> more people than guns
> women don't want to own guns now, they certainly won't after der habbening
> ammunition is certainly a limit. 99 percent of new gun owners are zoomers with an ar pistol, no sights and fewer than 100 rounds on hand
> innaSHTF the population is going to change so fast. 90 percent fatalities after the first 5 weeks.
> there will soon be way more guns than people
> however, those new warlords are going to be hoarding harder than that one user with all his dragon dick dildos.
> could potentially see successful force grabs concentrating power and ensuring that the average joe hasn't got any gat
honestly, between all these factors, it's going to be chaos working it's way towards feudalism.

after a while, there will probably be a lot of people without guns.
But that's no reason to stop fighting, so we probably will see heavy usage of machetes and staves again, although the wielders are gonna try and hide their shenanigans from the baliffs and landloards.
Can't have your serfs killing each other

Depends where you live and how common guns and ammunition are in your country.

You'd need a complete societal collapse which is going to entail a majority of the population dying off. That also means that there will be a lot of ammunition and guns out there to be scavenged from the dead. In the United States where we have a shitload of guns and ammo its unlikely that we'd run out of guns and ammo before we managed to rebuild civilization to a point where we could build more. That said we might have a state of anarchy longer simply because power would be so evenly distributed that it would be harder for a new government to rule through force of arms.

In countries where guns and ammo are largely concentrated into the hands of the state (Japan, China, much of Europe) you'd likely see most citizens arming themselves with melee weapons and bows rather rapidly while the survivors who had positions of authority in the old order would likely control most of the weapons. This might also lead to a new dictatorship arising more quickly since force of arms would already be concentrated into the hands of a few people.

In Africa they'd use up all their ammo slaughtering each other and be back to the stone age real quick. Although you might get a few shrewd Idi Amin types who are smart enough to horde their ammo long enough that their enemies would have already blown through their stockpile in which case a new dictatorship could be established with a limited amount of guns and ammo.

Just trying to figure out if all the time spent making medieval armor and swordfighting could ever feasibly become come in handy one day.

>the fucking retard doesn't even know what a TT is
Jesus christ

>cordite
Why is this word becoming more common? No one uses cordite anymore but I keep seeing people mentioning it like we do.

Yes it would
Stay delusional, threeper

Maybe if 99.99% of humanity died in a week. Wouldn't be many chemists or metal workers left. A thousand years later we might even have spent the last bullet.

I am ready to bend like a reed.

No.

No. Worst that could happen is that bayonets make a comeback on the battlefield. Which I doubt because modern tactics would prevent that even if everyone had muskets.

No. Large knives and handguns might become more common in daily life if something major happens but just about anything that we realistically survive leaves us with plenty of working guns & ammo and the ability to create more. You'd have to knock humanity back several hundred years to see firearms toppled as the king of weapons and even then you're looking at basic guns supplanting melee in the near future. BP certainly isn't going anywhere, it will die with us or not at all.

Why do that when I can throw a musket ball with compressed air hard enough to BTFO you and all your dudes?
