Why do revolvers need such long hammer spurs...

Why do revolvers need such long hammer spurs? Why doesn't someone just design a lower profile hammer with checkering like most DA/SA autoloaders?

There are some available and you can always do it yourself.
The reason most revolvers with non bobbed hammers tend to go with longer spurs is so it's easier to thumb. Most autoloaders are DA/SA or SA with a safety, and will automatically put itself in single action. A revolver needs to be cocked every time you want to fire single action, and the extremely nice single action trigger is a big draw to revolvers.

The do it so you can cock it manually. Also it has to be largenough that you can decock it manually. On a semi pulling the slide back cocks the hammer. On a semi you can unload the mag and clear the chamber. On revolver you cant clear it if its cocked. You have to manually decock it. A tiny hammer would make doing that safely hard.

but do you need single action?

No
Dao revolvers with concealed/shrouded hammers exist.

A lever is a beam connected to a pivot, called a fulcrum. The ideal lever does not dissipate or store energy, which means there is no friction in the hinge or bending in the beam. In this case, the power into the lever equals the power out, and the ratio of output to input force is given by the ratio of the distances from the fulcrum to the points of application of these forces. This is known as the law of the lever.

now you know why they dont do that

do what? the spur on that still sticks out noticeably

having my eardrums blown out would be scarier than actually getting shot by that.

Need it? Technically not. But single action gives you a far better trigger pull. Given the opportunity you'd always want to use SA if at all possible. The only time you would't be using it would be for rapid fire self defense. And guess what? pocket carry revolvers for defense have either bobbed hammers or shrouded hammers and are DA only.

"Old west" style revolvers had the grip shape and the hammer spur specifically designed so that when you fired one shot the gun would pivot in your grip with the barrel pointing upward so you could easily thumb the hammer back with your shooting hand. A lot of thought and R&D went into that.

Shoot a revolver sometime, nogunz, and the answer will be immedietly clear.

they already exist noguns

This has got to be one of the most dim witted threads I've ever seen here.

You shut your whore mouth you filthy fucking nigger.

Stick around a little longer. You'll see plenty more.

...

Its a lot less shitty
Hammer does all the work and trigger is light, where with double action the trigger kind of acts like the hammer

Earlet

Absolutely not brainlet. Thumbing down the hammer is the dumbest, most dangerous way to decock, full hammer spur or not. Shove your thumb in between the hammer and frame, pull the trigger and release, then slowly slide your thumb out.

Must be hard living with shit taste.

nowadays its probably much easier

My wrists hurt.
