Japan's next-generation diesel submarine design is revealed

>Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, New Submarine Concept Model

>As a 29SS next-generation submarine, the submarine uses the integrated control system adopted in 30FFM.

>All information was collected on one large monitor in the ship, and labor saving was considered.

>A new concept submarine that is completely different from conventional submarines.

Japan is like 2 generations behind when it comes to technology. They are still using fax machines and flip phones. I doubt these Chinese are worried

Attached: D9V6GusVUAAXWNT.jpg (1024x768, 96K)

>You were 17 seconds late! 3.6 Yuan have been deducted from your day's compensation.

I'm sad that futuristic submarines basically look the same as the old ones. You don't get as many visually differentiated designs as tanks or planes

It looks like a Russian submarine.

What a moronic post.

You can't have mobage be popular and still be using flip phones. They've moved on a long time ago. Personally, I find that kind of sad, flip phones had style.

Looks the British future SSBN Dreadnought class.

Attached: Dreadnought-class.jpg (1920x1080, 194K)

ACKSHULLY, Japan has one of the highest adoption rates for smartphones. Some moonmen do still like their flip phones. And fax machines will never die as long as the healthcare industry exists.

It is kind of a boring.

>One fucking screen.

Inb4 they say it can only be controlled through touchscreens. What a fucking dumb as shit design.

looks like a catfish

Its probably a slight mistranslation. There's multiple physical screens, but they're showing a single 'desktop' interface.

Based Nip engineering.

Japan has smart flip phones, as contradictory as this sounds

>amphibious APCs designed to go over reefs in an assault
>Clearly not a defensive weapon
>China has lots of islands with reefs around them
Umm, guys?

>smart flip phones
Of course it’s contradictory. Everyone knows the Philippines can’t manufacture smartphones.

Being able to respond to an enemy's declaration of war by being able to take out their staging grounds is a defensive action user.

>they are still using fax machines
literally the most secure protocol in the earth you moron
>flip phones
have you seen the "flip phones" of ntt docomo?

so they look the shinkansen alfa x and just make a sub?

3000hp holy fucking christ, the AAV had like 2600 and that kept chewing up engines

I fail to see how consumer electronic adoption reflects defense industry advancement. On the contrary, Japans heavy industries in general are still among the best.

If I were China I'd be worried as hell seeing as how CCP subs are still louder than WW2 battleships.

It's paradoxical. Diesel is quieter than nuclear which makes for a stealthier sub, but the constant need to refuel detracts from the sub's ability to actually do stuff.

>japs making subs again
is it happening Jow Forums?

They've been making subs for decades.

Diesels have the potential to be quieter than nukes when running on batteries, but nukes can be much quieter while transiting.

they've made subs since the 60's

Who fucking gives a shit holy fuck

That's another problem with diesel-electric: You have to charge up the batteries somehow, and that is going to make some noise.

Just set up some of those Tesla Superchargers on the bottom. But make it inductive

That's clever, but I'm not sure how practical it would be IRL.

>Diesels have the potential to be quieter than nukes when running on batteries, but nukes can be much quieter while transiting.
Will we begin to see SSKs gain popularity as energy storage improves? Japan switched one of their existing subs to lithium batteries, it doubled it's electric range and decreased charging time, that was without redesigning the entire thing to take advantage of them and using fairly conservative battery chemistry. With newer tech over the next few years you could probably expect another 2x-4x improvement. One other interesting thing is modern batteries have a much higher power density than a nuclear reactor even though they store far less energy overall. If they design the hull for high speed the electric sub could output much more energy to it's engine in small bursts. Endurance would be limited but you could probably outrun most torpedos. The only issue might be existing diesel generators, they're going to need 100 megawatts or more to rapidly charge these high current batteries, they will probably have to switch to gas turbine engines.

The capacity for long term submergence while underway needs to be your number one priority when designing a sub.

You can try switching to something like a diesel fuel cell as a silent (pseudo-)AIP power plant, but they have issues of their own. They're very large, they have relatively poor power ratings (better than the hydrogen-oxygen ones, but still bad) and they require synthetic diesel (because the catalyst gets poisoned very quickly by impurities from regular refined diesel).

>Diesel is quieter than nuclear

myth

it is true, check out the Kilo class vs nuclear

Homogenization is inevitable in every industry

Fucking liberals and their homo agenda.
This is the cancer that Donnie is here to fix

>They are still using fax machines and flip phones.
And they're right. Email is a clunky shit, bring back the fax or just skip direct to instant message systems. God I hate email.

>they will probably have to switch to gas turbine engines.
Aside from the hp vs size issue, will this reduce their sound signature while charging?

I hear submariners are autistic weirdos, which makes me wonder how weird Japanese submariners must be.

Paradoxically, they are absolute chads.

Great. It looks like a vibrator for my ass.

t.chang

Underwater Bukakkes

Nuclear propulsion always makes noise, the pumps are always running. Though, overall, they produce less noise underway and typically while patrolling.

get fucked china
the sub is also gonna be controlled via this system

>In 2022, the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force will take possession of a frigate with one of the most powerful combat information centers (CICs) in the world. Normally a CIC, a dimly lit room isn’t much to get excited about, but this is different. The “Advanced Integrated CIC” set to go on the ship features a 360 degree wall of video monitors, augmented reality, and large tactile tables for mission planning and other tasks. The new system looks like the bridge of a Star Trek starship come to life—and in some respects, it's even cooler.

>circular arrangement on a ship

worst use of already limited space onboard.

Japanese are smaller so it works out.

Asians are slant-eyed so their perception of space and time is different for them.

japanese people have notoriously small feet with very small socks. probably not an issue

worth it. it offers an unprecedented level of situational awareness thanks to the 360 degree view reinforced with sensor fusion and AR.

Why just a ring panorama? A proper panoramic bridge / cockpit should cover the ceiling and floor too, especially for something in the water with the freedom of 3-dimensional movement.

Why would you look directly above or below tho

the pic is 30FFM's system, not the sub's

>Japanese madmen made their new sub look like a huge dick on purpose to remind the chinks what they did to their women in ww2
What a time to be alive

Attached: 1560956915942-1.jpg (291x217, 39K)

No daddy no

I think a bathroom/head would be a good idea to toss in. This way you can lock down a ship and there is someplace to piss. Less time away from station for the bathroom makes sense as well. Just thinking there has been.. issues with that on ships with women in charge with pissing on the bridge.

What? How is it more clunky than fax?

It's the same as with animal evolution. The best designs tend to become standard

Attached: file.png (413x281, 115K)

I'm betting they won't even use half of it's capabilities for the first couple years. The 360 degree screens are good but you end up with information overload and missed data because the CO was looking at the wrong screens.

Most likely, you end up with a 180 arc of screens with more screens being used only when necessary.

>He's not in on it

The US is preparing to unite Japan and Korea into an Asian superstate that will sieze all of coastal China.

Not a first time China or Russia has tried taken islands around Japan or along its island chain. Not to mention it learned very quickly you have to stop any footholds to be established ASAP from WWII with the US. They may not like the whole defeat but they also know to learn from that war and make changes to protect themselves.

>phones are an important technology and represent other important technology

Never go full s o y

Unimpressive. And also, still in PPT mode.

China, on the other hand, is already producing their next gen SSK, featuring a sailless design.

Attached: PLAN sailless sub.jpg (940x428, 84K)

>Falling for the nosail meme

USN tried it and discarded it decades ago.

>a sailless design

Wow they've caught up to where the USN and Soviets were in the 70's!

They should just buy German.

More likely US/Russia leaking altered submarine plans and documents to China spies and having a good laugh over a glass of Vodka.

And yet, "high tech Japan" still is stuck with subs about as good as China's earliest Yuan-class AIP SSK.

Very telling of Japan's overall technological competence... Which is shit-tier galapagos tech.

Attached: Japan low tech belly.jpg (677x1077, 138K)

Japan is pushing fuel cells pretty hard right. Makes me wonder if they gonna try to use that technolgy for their submarines like Germany for the U 212A class.

how many of your people live in caves chang

They've been experimenting with lithium cell SSKs, what are you on about?

oh moving the goalposts again Wang

Everyone in banking/finance requires confirmations via fax as well.

>pumps are always running
Natural circulation reactors are a thing, and have been for a while

lol China is developing a supersonic submarine. Japs can fuck off with 19th century tech

Which is completely useless for literally anything the military would want

Can you imagine ramming a blue whale at mach 2 though?

According to the article, it’s actually closer to Mach 4.5.

Still fucking dumb and useless tho

Thanks for the concept Tojo.

The PLAN will endeavour to put this into our Type55a1 and type 054b models as well

>FUCK YOU WHAAAAREEE

>useless
>hits your carrier with a mach1 torpedo

Heh nothing personnel mutt

Except you aren’t going to be able to get anywhere near the carrier. Because you’ll either drive right by it because lolnosteering, or you’ll stop just outside of torpedo range, but literally anyone within a thousand miles will hear you and know you’re there. So as soon as you stop, you’ll have three or four ASW helis dropping torpedos on your ass

Nice cope, Chang

tl;dr- we WANT everyone on the fucking planet to hear us underwater

>3.6 Yuan
Not great, but not terrible

>you can hear the bullet before it hits you bro ;)
