So what does the F35 actually do? What is its intended purpose? It seems like its meant to do several different things, but none of them particularly well.

>What is its intended purpose?
F-35's primary purpose is to extract as much money as possible from taxpayers.

Stealthy f16

It’s a multi role strike fighter. Basically just a stealth F-16. Expect to see them used heavily in CAS and SEAD missions the next time the US or another allied state fights an army.

It does those jobs actually pretty well. It's a multi-role, meaning it does a lot of jobs by design. Much like the F-16, which it largely is replacing. or the F-18s, which it is also replacing. It also acts as an incredibly good sensor and electronic warfare plane for a multirole, with a lot of data transfer capability, and can act as a hub for UAVs (like a "mothership" in terms of control). The whole thing can act as a targeting pod too; the F-35 in "stealth" configuration can passively target things, things outside sensor range can launch their weapons at the target's general vicinity, then the stealth-mode F-35 guides it to the target precisely. It wears many hats. Anything done by other F-series fighters it can do. laser-guided bombing runs, gps guided bombs, BVR aerial combat with super long range weapons, and on top of that:
>B variant for short carriers like the Marine carriers we own, the Brit carrier, and other short runways
>longer fuel range than the F-16 and 18 without fuel pods
>greater payload, it can actually carry quite a bit of weight
>shared with allies so we can do really direct and intense cross-training and supply line sharing

Seriously, in about 10 years you can show up to a ton of our allies with one of these and they'd be able to service it and fix it. The reverse is also true. That's a really big undersold feature. The fact that it doesn't need a catapult to launch (B variant) also means that a lot of our allies can get a carrier-launched stealth plane to replace stuff like the Harrier or other lighter craft.

Considering there’s no other STOVL combat aircraft in production, the F-35B is a seriously huge addition in capability to US allies who operate helicopter carriers. I think both the Japanese and Italians are planning on that.

>So what does the F35 actually do?
It launches weapons and leaves before it can be detected.
>What is its intended purpose?
It launches weapons and leaves before it can be detected.
>It seems like its meant to do several different things, but none of them particularly well.
It launches weapons and leaves before it can be detected, perfectly fine.

Is the capability worth the cost? Nobody really knows.

>Infographics Show

I mean, they do have neat videos, but trying to treat them as any sort of definitive source, especially on military technology, is really really dumb.

>the cost
The F-35A is gonna be down to $80 mil next year. It’s pretty darn cheap compared to aircraft with similar or even inferior capabilities.

>What is its intended purpose?
To trigger seething vatniks and politburo Yangs. It also comes with a side gimmick of destroying your shit before you ever see it coming

The purposes of those evaluation reports is to absolutely rip apart projects. No government readiness report like that has ever been positive.

also from the same vid
>guns are more accurate than bombs and missiles
AHAHAHAHA

I didn’t watch the vid, but did it seriously say that?

I've heard the jap carrier can't carry it in theory cuz the deck isn't right and it would melt, but idk if that's something that can be fixed with a new form of tarmac or whatever. But I do think future versions of the jap helicopter carriers will keep this ability in mind, since the Japanese (and maybe someday the South Koreans) are going "fuck China"

Yes. Now, around ground troops (which it does say) there's an argument that it's safer, but that also ignores things like the small diameter bomb that exists for this exact reason. It's not like the only bomb we have are 1-ton GBUs.

>>guns are more accurate than bombs and missiles
for CAS, yes.

They allegedly need to resurface the deck to accommodate them, but there’s serious plans in Japan to procure the F-35B.

user do you know what the word accurate means?

user if your options are "laser guided/GPS guided" vs "someone eyeballing it with 30mm bullets" which one do you think you should trust

imagine doing CAS with JDAMS...
you're a motherfucking retard.

Attached: 1534668247756.jpg (645x729, 57K)

because you don't use a fucking jdam retard you use a SDB or something similar.

There’s more to aircraft than CAS. F35 is a great platform for SEAD.

I’m like 60% sure the B-1 was the most-utilized CAS platform in the Iraq war. JDAMS are used for CAS literally all the time.

>imagine doing CAS with JDAMS

That's what soldiers have been doing since 2001 nigger. GBU-38, learn it.

>It’s a multi role strike fighter
>It does those jobs actually pretty well
ALL of these are fucking retards.

>the program is slated to cost over a trillion
Yeah, by 2070.

Yeah and the F-16 had a nasty tendency to lawn dart. Everyone seems satisfied with them so far.

>Roach
lmao stay mad, you're never getting back into the f-35 program

>starts linking socialist organizations to cite his retarded diatribe
kek

HOLY FUCKING SHIT! HAHA

Jesus Christ. This has to be satire.

It isn't. Just imagine the Murphy's law when it comes to F-35... even some small issue can cascade into a life or death situation... in an instant.

Attached: 1545297840791.jpg (604x710, 66K)

And yet, somehow, almost as if by magic, the F-35B manages to do both. Don't tell the B it can't fly

>Just imagine the Murphy's law when it comes to helicopters... even some small issue can cascade into a life or death situation.... in an instant.

t. 1920s aeronautics engineer when someone mentions the idea of turning a turboprop on its side and flying vertically that way

>The absolute state of people who criticize the F-35
No wonder the US is buying 2600 of them.

>MUH MAGIC
kek'd.

anyway, as I'm reading down this thread, the crazier it gets!

absolute madness!

>Paint peels off easily
So does literally every stealth aircraft the US has ever made. That paint is really fucking delicate.
>Can't dogfight
The point of the goddamn plane isn't to dogfight you nigger, it's a multi-role plane.
The F-4 was criticized to no end for the exact same thing and it did pretty well after the US made tactics exclusively for the F-4 to be able to dogfight.
>Muh systems failing
When it was still under testing, you absolute tard

>That whole twitter thread
That's fucking hilarious. How could one person be simultaneously so mad and so wrong?

even with the whole deck stacked in its favor, F-35 loses!
unbelievable disaster!
how the fuck are Lockheed scumbags allowed to cheat this much?!?! they should all be in prison.

Attached: 1557538500094.jpg (611x653, 65K)

>Over a trillion dollars
Over nearly 80 years

Except, you know, the F-35 would murderize the fuck out of the F-16 far beyond dogfighting range.
Almost like it was DESIGNED to do 5hat

CAS does not equal gun runs flying at 200 feet off the deck, retardo.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!

This is nothing more than criminal. The whole F-35 program is a massive scam.

F-35 can't even defeat an F-16!

Attached: 1542498217993.jpg (615x1149, 120K)

The F-35 paint is actually more durable than the F-22. Stealth paint is finicky though.

you heard it here folks, tanks are obsolete because ATGMs exist, cars are obsolete because mines exist, soldiers are obsolete because hmgs exist, drones are obsolete because hacking exists, helicopters are obsolete because MANPADs exist, and humans are obsolete because a 20 cent piece of copper can btfo something that took nature 500 million years to make. If something cheaper than your thing can beat it, there's literally no point.

HAHA

>Russia and China's allies are going to have planes that can be easily serviced and don't break down in the rain, suffocate you, or crush your skull into toothpaste against the cockpit ceiling. And, presumably, are capable of fucking turning.

Attached: 1547199691652.jpg (622x1023, 98K)

Except the Su-57 is never going to have the numbers of even the F-22. And the various Chinkshit flavors are even more of a turd than you meme the F-35 to be

Unsourced claims in tweets. Seems legit, why aren't the DoD employing this guy to advise them?

>Is the capability worth the cost?
It's cheaper to operate than a number of other US aircraft.

Attached: CostPerFlightHour.png (1160x688, 73K)

Holly shit, the cockpit is so tight that the pilot can't move it's head to look around!!!!

F35 IS OVER!!!!

>MUH CLAIMS
kek'd.
you're grasping at straws, lockmart shill.

>It's cheaper to operate than a number of other US aircraft.
BULLSHIT! It's all nonsense.

Also, let's not forget that F-35 isn't even expected to last the DoD mandated 8,000 flight hours. Some F-35 air-frames, like F-35C, can't even do a 1/3 of that.

it's nuts.

>medium.com
okay nigger

We won't know until it happens. Also, fighters tend to outlast those minimum reqs just because. Blue Angels are almost suicidally old.

Fpbp

t. didn't look at the graph

I'd say it's closer to a more agile f117. It has the same missile/bomb capacity.

last time i checked, the nighthawk couldn't sling external rails

Fuck you. You knew I meant internal payload. You fucking knew that and just fuck you.

Looks cool. I can see why Lamborghini is taking design inspiration from American fifth-gens.

any post after this one is utter horseshit.

>some random twitter nigger posting about problems that were fixed years ago
Jow Forums has changed a lot over the years but I can always rest assured that F-35 threads will never change.

>dr. Stein told us that the problems were fixed

people who don't listen to jewish scientists usually end up losing wars

I live in southeast Alaska and one landed at our regular airport, no military airport, and when everyone asked "what's the F-35 doing here?!?" "Waiting for parts". It was then I realized Jow Forums is never wrong.

Attached: IMG_5704.jpg (1024x683, 62K)

Its the 5th gen's F16 essentially. A do everything plane. The B version replaces the Harrier while the C replaces the F18 Legacy Hornets in the Navy.

Fund Lockheed's coke and hooked parties
The Pratt and Whitney 135 is really a marvel though. It can supercruise at Mach 1.5 even with the bay doors open, allowing it to spread the pork all over 50 states.

>take two F135 engines
>put them in an F-4 Phantom
>enjoy your 6th generation fighter

Attached: nlvm7p41nntotawyq8iz.jpg (1600x900, 218K)

F35B doesn't VTOL, it's STOVL. Opinion discarded.

Go back to smearing shit onto your walls and deciphering prophetic messages in it, schizo tranny

OMG we should cancel the F-35 and buy Chinese!!!

t. butthurt

Based
now just add F-15X/F-15SE characteristics and we got ourselves something superior

If this is true it's hilarious. Even if it isn't, that's still pretty fucking funny.

Attached: 1554397632862.jpg (600x591, 71K)

>Based
>now just add F-15X/F-15SE characteristics and we got ourselves something superior
If you put 2x f135 engines in some 4 gen fighter with added thrust vectoring they could do tail sitting VTOL like spaceX rockets do.

You think other aircraft don’t break?

I'm refering to in-fuselage missile compartments(from F-15SE) and improved radar capability, but what you mentioned is sitll good tho

Nice pic

Easy to fix. They had similar problems on US carriers and ran coolant pipes under parts of the deck.

Twitter posts. It must be true. Thanks user.

Jesus FUCKING Christ, where the FUCK did these retarded anti-F-35 faggots came from? Fucking zit-faced summer fags, they can't even spell right.

They come from across the pond

Add swing wings while we are at it

Primarily from Russia and China.

>I've heard the jap carrier can't carry it in theory cuz the deck isn't right and it would melt, but idk if that's something that can be fixed with a new form of tarmac or whatever
Same problem with our Aussie carriers.

>what does the F35 actually do

It makes people rich.

Euro here.

It's one ugly plane, there's no way around it.

Baby, we got a stew going.

Attached: 1479936255722379152.jpg (960x756, 194K)

>but none of them particularly well.
But it does all of them exceptionally well, except maybe air supremacy. But in that situation they're there to make the Raptors in the strike package about four times deadlier than they already are.

You dont do CAS with JDAMs.
You do it with SDB IIIs.
Also guns have a terrible CEP on par with a Hydra pod.
An inert SDB III can knock a faggot off his motorcycle.

that's actually pretty clever to retrofit on but I imagine that's not an easy thing to maintain. But it's not like Japan can't afford it, financially or technologically

>my face when I realized exactly how much fuel the F-35 carries on internal stores alone
>they're making the removable pylons wet-ready anyway

Attached: 1404963521550.jpg (553x351, 15K)

Arguably they do CAP even better due to the absurd sensor package the thing has for longer identification range. But yeah adding even 1 raptor is basically a freight train of punishment for whatever poor bastard is on the receiving end of an F-35/F-22 combo.

shoot down planes and bomb
this

They're also considering adding CFTs sometime in the future too.
This baby is gonna have some real long legs.

tries to be an f16
ends up being a fat f104

fpbp lol

>It seems like its meant to do several different things, but none of them particularly well.
Yeah, multirole fighters tend to do that.
Most countries can't afford to maintain a fighter for each specific role. This is our best All Rounder yet.

To paraphrase NWA, you type like a Chang or a dirty-ass vatnick
