If you wanna go in for a long time and do cool shit I would recommend 13F, you'll make E5 in 3 1/2 years if you study for the for the board and luck sack a early promotion to Specialist along the way. From their its an automatic promotion to E6, but that'll be a wall as your then limited to observer Platoon sergeant slots or being a targeting bitch at brigade and higher echelons. E8 is unicorn status for 13F, and most lifers go warrant from E6 or E7 at that point.
being an artillery observer is great fun, its rough at first as their is a ton of technique and field craft that is just not taught in AIT. But the easy path to NCO makes you the cool uncle that blows shit up for the infantry platoons, but a little bitch when the said manning issues lead to you as a private being broken off by yourself to be raped by the elevens when doing field exercises. Also, I dunno if they still do it, but there was program to get a promotion to E2 before even getting to basic for passing the apft administered by the recruiter. If your hot shit, you can snag PFC from basic for being top of the class or whatever gay shit it was called, or master blaster at the School of Fisting. Pro tip, enlist with a summer/ spring window of training. I went in in winter and everyone was dog shit sick and the fucking cold at Fort Sill made me wanna kill myself.

I'm going in as well user but honestly I'd avoid combat arms. I'm going 91F so I can repair and shoot guns. Apparently the infantry guys to have a mechanic with them during range time just in case they need help with something. Just think carefully about what you really want your day-to-day life to be.

Took a practice test and scored a 78, took the real thing and got an 81. I reserved an 11x contract at first because I didn't think i'd do that well for 68W. Fast forward a couple weeks due to MEPS processing my waivers for my feet and eyes and I find out my vision isn't good enough for infantry. Requirement is 20/20 corrected, mine was 20/30.

Recruiter calls me up yesterday and gives me the bad news. Started listing other jobs I was eligible for and he tells me Combat Medic is one of them. I go up again on Sunday and swear in Monday morning. Its kinda gay because I wanted to leave my shitty ass job on the 8th to benning, but I can settle for the 5th of august. Gives me more time to spend with the lass and all.

i knew two, they were 11B that got sent to dog handler schools, they loved it. but they eventually lose their dogs. really messed with them more i think that more than the multiple multiple engagments, IED explosions, being attacked by local dogs, and so on.
