SERE is considered SOF for some reason, but his training isn't from the military. If you've watched any of his videos you've heard him recommend various trainers/training establishments. You can get better training in the civilian world than you can in the military for the most part.

You can still have political opinions and express them as long as you aren't doing it in uniform and aren't representing the military, to a certain extent at least.

Pure speculation, but I believe he films a lot of these ahead of time and release them spaced out. Back in country for a few weeks, film heavy a few days, be flown to somethingistan to be operator, do more military training, fly back. I don't know how it works for what he does. The difference is in the disciplines of study and the physicality of the courses. SERE Specialists are not special operations but they fell under a weird spot in the former AFSOC world. This is no longer case anymore with AFSPECWAR.

SERE Specialists get airborne, freefall, macp 1-4 in addition to Special Operations Combatives Courses and multiple higher level courses not discussed here. The comparison to Nuke school is a non sequitur.

Not at all saying SERE Specialists are Special Operations. Not close, recent reorganizations in AFSPECWAR have clearly defined TACP, PJ, CCT, and Special Recon as Special Operations. Just pointing out some key differences between Nuke school and the year plus pipeline that Sere Specialists attend.

SERE Specialist still falls under AFSOC. The code for it falls under Operations, under Aircrew Protection along with PJ.

The 342TRS is one of five training squadrons in 37TRG that do enlisted and officer training for something like 20 different career fields.

Weird how I can pull up the AFI on my terminal and see them under AETC when in training billets, with the rare guys who deploy or go on extended TDY’s going to AMC and ACC billets.

If they were AFSOC they’d be authorized to wear AFSOC patches,and assigned to an AFSOC unit, which they aren’t now and weren’t when I went to SV80 over ten years ago.

SERE are most definitely not afsoc. Doubtful anyone who is sane is arguing that.

AFSOC Supplement to AFI 36-2903 lists SERE as one of the Authorized Duty Identifier Tabs

SOF individuals can be attached to non SOF units to augment them.
