New Zealand Police want to do all we can to make sure you are properly informed of the various changes to the law. The most significant change is the prohibition of most semi-automatic firearms and some pump action shotguns, parts of these firearms, and large-capacity magazines. Amnesty Period
There is now an amnesty in place providing conditional protection from prosecution for offences of possessing prohibited items until 20 December 2019. This will allow you time to notify Police that you possess prohibited items and to take part in the buy-back process (if you are eligible). If you have not already notified Police, visit the page Changes to firearms law - prohibited firearms on the Police website.
This page has comprehensive information on newly prohibited firearms, parts, accessories and ammunition.
You cannot use prohibited firearms during the temporary amnesty period. The amnesty does allow you to hand in prohibited firearms even if you no longer hold a valid licence. You may also hand in a non-prohibited firearm if you no longer wish to have it in your possession.
Exemptions
People wanting to apply for an endorsement to possess prohibited items need to take the opportunity to do that during the amnesty period, for example e.g. a person to whom the item has special significance as an heirloom, dealers, collectors, museum curators, theatrical members/broadcasters, and people involved in wild animal and animal pest control. The Police online notification form enables people to show an intent to apply for such an exemption.

The buy-back process
The buy-back process applies to newly prohibited firearms held by people with a valid firearms licence. No firearms licence is required to apply for compensation for prohibited parts and magazines that are handed in. The buy-back offer is available until 20 Dec 2019.
A base price list has been developed in consultation with firearms and industry specialists which reflects a value for firearms in the New Zealand market just prior to the events of March 2019. A three-tier grading system - based on the condition of the firearm - will be applied to compensate owners of prohibited firearms fairly.
A person with a prohibited firearm that is:
In new or near-new condition, will receive 95% of the base price.
In Used condition, will receive 70% of the base price.
In poor condition, will receive 25% of the base price.
There are two tiers that will be used for the compensation of prohibited magazines and parts:
Those in new or used condition will receive 70% of the base price.
Those in poor condition will receive 25% of the base price.
The full list of firearms and parts available for buy-back are listed on the page Changes to firearms law - prohibited firearms on the Police website. If your firearm is not listed on this price list, please note that we will be reviewing the list and updating where appropriate.
You are encouraged to check the price list for the value of your item/sand then notify Police online of your intention to participate in the buy-back process, if you have not already registered your intention to do so. At least getting some money back is an option. Here in Norway, a "gun amnesty" means you are allowed to relinquish your unlicensed guns without beng charged for it. For free. Somehow this has failed to bring in more than maybe 2% of the illegal weapons estimated to be out there, over the 30 years the state has been making this gallant offer.

Both were mostly based on the sten. The italian one had some features stolen from the mab 38 (the double trigger) and some stolen from the fnab 38 (the folding stock and the folding magwell).
While the allies were ok with giving weapons to the partisans, I don't really think that they liked the idea of having clandestine groups making their own weapons in Europe, expecially in Italy where many partisans were communists.
