Surplus? Hasn't been a surplus in years, it's called military deficit now.

I already made a thread since this one was gone, but anyone have advice for inspecting SMLEs? Might be trading a M&P for one. Pic related.

Going to shoot my surp for the first time today

Attached: IMG_20190713_092551.jpg (2000x1001, 373K)

>removing the bolts
Heretical and also dumb. Nice Swede though.

Rules be like that

New Gew.

The advice you got in the other thread is pretty good. Buying ammo online is your friend.

God damn the Belgo-Peruvian shortboy kicks like a mule

Manlicker?

That's a Gew 88 commission rifle.

Judenflinte!

Bench-sama

Is that an M1917 or Pattern 14?

Back from the range, first time shooting my surps.
Swedish M96/38 kicks more than I expected but it's not bad. The rectangle front post is great and the trigger feels good. Even shoots pretty well for a 120yo rifle.
FN made Peruvian Modelo 35 kicks like a motherfucker and the trigger is really shitty on mine. You pull the trigger to the hard point, at this point the Swede is ready to go but on the FN the trigger gets harder but you still have to pull it several mm before getting to real break. Inverted V front post gave me some trouble, my eye can't seem to focus properly on it

My surp.

Attached: milsurp.jpg (800x1200, 121K)

Are Chinese Tokarev 8 round magazines compatible with Romanian TTCs? Most sources say yes, but Classic Firearm's page says no.

Attached: 1562633016943.jpg (307x462, 28K)

Swedish Mausers are on a different level compared to most other Mausers.

It felt like it in the hands, just playing with the action at home. Confirmed at the range today. I'll try my German one next time.
Might try to sell the FN to buy a full length Swedish M96

Attached: shooting 13-07.jpg (2304x1728, 872K)

You may already know but don't dry fire a Swede without something cushioning between the cocking piece and the bolt shroud, you can crack the shroud that way. I had one with a hairline crack in it once, fortunately never got any worse.

Didn't know it was that bad but it's cool, I have some dummy rounds to practice with

Hmm I found Swedes to have little to no kick and they're super comfortable to shoulder.

Maybe the full length Swedes kick less? Or I just need to get used to it, I've never shot something like this before. Shot 22lr recently and 5.56 in the army 15 years ago, nothing bigger until today

>Most sources say yes, but Classic Firearm's page says no.
We just don't know.

Attached: big_Ben's_bullshit.jpg (1279x827, 186K)

>Maybe the full length Swedes kick less?
It's heavier; perceived recoil is less.

Are we posting new Surp?

>new
I never know quite how to phrase it.

Attached: Berthier_07-15_07-03-2019_B.jpg (1500x758, 1.15M)

I probably should have worded it "newly acquired" but whatever, this M28 is slick.

will soaking wood stock in mineral spirit overnight completely remove the cosmoline?

Attached: 1546904100950.jpg (538x538, 46K)

It's a very nice rifle. Proper Winter War veteran.

Attached: Berthier_07-15_07-03-2019_date.jpg (1200x675, 566K)

It still had cosmoline on the barrel under the wood feels good. The bore is a little rough but killing communists is hard work.

Attached: M91-30 (1943) tigerstripes.jpg (3000x2000, 1.78M)

>will soaking wood stock in mineral spirit overnight completely remove the cosmoline?
Yeah. Probably any remaining finish the stock has as well.

Don't.

>killing communists is hard work.
I mean they actually make it pretty easy for you to kill them, it's just that there's always more to kill.

Attached: M27_5-2-2014_crest_A.jpg (1024x768, 631K)

Good thing I have two commie killers then.

Attached: Finn M91 crest.jpg (1332x1511, 449K)

i already did but there still like the original finish on it and it smells. its a refurb izhmash stock

Sometimes it takes a Commie to kill a Commie.

Anybody know what kind of Carcano this is? Friend's mom sent these pictures to him for help when their dad died. The rear sight looks like a M41, as does the rest of the rifle, but the handguard stops way too soon to be a M41 from every photo I've found online. I've looked at every variant photo I can find online and not one has the barrel sticking out that much with those rear sights. Also it has a bent bolt and I read online that the M41 did not have a bent bolt.

Attached: IMG_0625.jpg (960x1280, 284K)

It's an M41 with the stock shortened and the bolt handle bent down. Bubba's been at work on it.

Figured that's what I was looking at, I'll let them know.

I had no idea that you could relocate the barrel band that far back on a cut handguard and still make it look so flush. I wonder why he bothered and didn't just remove the front handguard entirely like you usually see on stuff like this.

Figured I would ask again, would a Steyr-Pieper M1908 count as Milsurp if it was a private purchase?

Also, mine is from 1920.

Attached: IMG_0046.jpg (2000x1500, 312K)

M1917. I'd love to add a P14 to the collection.
Mauser inverted V sights are quite possibly the worst milsurp sights I've ever used.

Attached: 20190604_172923-3024x2268.jpg (3024x2268, 1.52M)

It could be an M41 in an incorrect stock. Bubba shortening the stock then putting the hardware back on is just really fucking weird.
No. But, it is still welcome here. If it was never in military service at all, it doesn't count.

P14s are the shiz-nit Bench-sama.

Have one that passed through Greece at some point, fist-size hole at 100 yards without me breathing hard.

Told the M1917s are just as accurate

Also, they will hold SIX rounds because of the magazine size

They are very accurate. Mine is beat to shit and looks like it spent years in someone's damp basement, then was promptly half ass sported, but still somehow shoots well. The whole six round stendo mag is pretty cool too. Could I see your P14?

What does this crown mean? It’s on the bolt of a 1917 m91 carcano

Attached: 2111B50E-4FFC-414C-86B7-A261F21436BF.jpg (750x1334, 390K)

It's the crown of the House of Savoy.

Attached: CarcanoM91_03-03-2019_bolt_serial.jpg (1200x800, 526K)

So was mine used by Savoy or something

That was the royal family during that time period. So, that's just an acceptance mark.

post your biggest workhorse

Attached: sksclippy.jpg (570x607, 64K)

>So was mine used by Savoy or something
The House of Savoy was the royal house of the Kingdom of Italy.

Attached: CarcanoM91_range_03-26-2019_A.jpg (1200x900, 747K)

So this guy counts as well then even though its not Imperial marked

Attached: IMG_0827.jpg (2674x3161, 1.8M)

gomen gomen

Its waaaaaaaay in the back of the safe, kind of a pain to pull out. Its an Eddystone with the original volley sight still there

I'm gonna post some pictures of the Enfield I might be getting, you guys mind telling me if it's in serviceable shape?

Attached: IMG_2264.jpg (750x880, 112K)

Attached: IMG_2265.jpg (750x490, 114K)

Attached: IMG_2266.jpg (750x832, 87K)

Attached: IMG_2271.jpg (750x529, 117K)

how much are they asking?

Attached: IMG_2268.jpg (750x436, 57K)

I'm trading a M&P .40 for it

This is the last pic, I'm gonna be inspecting it in person before getting it, especially the bore, and bolt, I've watched some videos and read some stuff, I'm looking for a decent shooter not really a wall hanger, minute of dead deer is good enough for me.

Attached: IMG_2270.jpg (750x409, 96K)

>minute of dead dear
Honestly, if that's your expectation I wouldn't get a surp rifle. That said, you are coming out on top with the trade

What this guy said. If you are shooting durr get a Ruger American or Savage Axis. Any of the bargain basement modern bolt actions will work just fine and be more accurate.

Trading a mediocre and common pistol for a rifle getting more expensive as times goes on is a good trade.

Lgs has a Beautiful Jezail for 499, genuinely tempted to pick it up.
Looks like pic related

Attached: 455lot317.jpg (600x450, 41K)

I took my gramps sporterized Kar98AZ out today, this is 5 shots at 100 yards, I was shooting S&B 196gr, not sure what ammo works best for this gun, but I was honestly expecting worse considering the bore being in rough condition. Recoil was brutal though.

Attached: 20190705_141348.jpg (4032x1960, 2.44M)

I've never seen one for sale, or looked for one, but that sounds like a reasonable price to me.

Gonna put down on it next time I get paid, first one I've ever seen and not passing on it

Go through the checklist to ensure you're not buying a fake.
>check under lock plate
>check bore (they're rifled, the fakes are smooth)
>peep sights only, no notch sights
>big caliber bore (.50 to .75)

nice

yeah you'll find shooting milsurps that the throat and crown matter a lot more than an overall good or shiny bore

>8mm Mauser
>brutal recoil
Get some meat on your shoulders, sissy.

Actually just realized that was the wrong image, can't remember what that target is from. Pic related is the right one.

Attached: 20190713_142857.jpg (4032x1960, 2.36M)

Aw shit nigga that's a Mk V trials rifle!

1922 or 1924?

I have no idea yet, it seems all original tho.

I already have plenty of deer guns I meant it more as an expression I suppose

I don't think that's the rifle you think it is

>tfw I go to the LGS today and see a sanded, varnished, Spanish Civil War WZ29 with a VZ24 bolt and a worn bore
>$650
Why can't I find a nice Polish mauser with the crest at all? Are they unicorns or something? How expensive are they?

Attached: 1562661160035.png (1116x681, 53K)

Yes, but Mannlicher was part of that commission and this action would go on to become the Mannlicher turn bolts like this Portuguese 1896.

Attached: 20170529_143622.jpg (2048x425, 661K)

That's a fair group, you probably won't get much better. However they were made for S.patrone ammo, which is a much lighter (150gr) bullet at 2900fps. So try finding something similar to that to compare against.

Attached: 20190324_094829.jpg (3576x784, 2.01M)

I'll keep that in mind. I had some yugo surplus as well, it didn't say what weight the bullets were though.

>This is the last pic
It is not of the same rifle as
Rifle looks OK; stock has been refinished but metal looks original.

>Aw shit nigga that's a Mk V trials rifle!
Thay is not a No.1Mk.V rear sight; it is a Mk.3 sight from a No.4.

>Mannlicher was part of that commission
He wasn't, which was why OEWG was able to successfully sue the German government and secure exclusive rights to foreign sales of the Gew.88 as well as a big chunk of the domestic German military contract.

Attached: Enfield_No4_rear_sights.jpg (466x800, 105K)

probably my SKS as well, its cheap to feed, 10 round magazine, and semi-auto.

The other pics posted were from a No. 1

>as well as a big chunk of the domestic German military contract.
Do you have any reading on this particular point? I'm, mostly, aware of the lawsuit and how that lead to them gaining international sales rights but internal German production? That point I've never heard.

Anyone see an issue with renaissance wax on both wood and steel of a type 22 for long term storage?

Attached: DSC_0133.jpg (1620x1080, 431K)

It seems like a bunch of 7.62x45 surplus just came onto a market. I now kinda want a vz52...

Didnt get a chance to check most of that, but it is .54

Theres a nice vz24 not too far from where I live, seems near mint but it's one of only 3 I've seen total

don't leave us hanging like that user, post pics and share with us

>post your biggest workhorse
My Vz.98 is the rifle I shoot the most.

Attached: Vz98_SG98_07-19-2018_F.jpg (960x1280, 1.06M)

Nice! How much was it?
Sling and stabber just arrived today for the Lee Enfield. Ammo should be following soon, can't wait to take it out.

Attached: lee665.jpg (448x607, 33K)

>Nice! How much was it?
$363.93 after tax.

Attached: Vz98_range_12-22-2016_B.jpg (1280x960, 677K)

Next gunshow is August 3rd. Hoping to pick up either a No4mk1 or a carcano, preferably a cav carbine.

LGS? That's a very comfy looking range.

Local auction.
>That's a very comfy looking range.
Can confirm.

What ammo? Reloads are the way to go over the long term if you ask me but PPU does a pretty respectable load.

Attached: No4 MkI f401 003.jpg (2272x1704, 991K)

sgammo.com/product/303-british-ammo/20-round-box-303-british-surplus-ammo-174-grain-bi-metal-fmj-1980s-vintage-

Ordered a few boxes of this to start off with. From the reviews it looks pretty solid. Though if I don't reload maybe I should just order some of the cheap steel case. 303 is one of the cheapest milsurp calibers anyway

I've never shot any of that, looks pretty good though. Report back and tell us how it goes.
