In real life, even under the best circumstances, it'd be hard to use practically. Sure you can punch a hole through armor but what are you going to hit? Multi-crew vehicles will lose some efficiency but still function, and you won't know where the engine is unless you've already taken down a few and you'll need that info for every type of vehicle. Ammo? Well now you're also exploded. Salvage? For what?
