Why would the Marines trust Weyland Yutani?

Why would the Marines trust Weyland Yutani?
Why would they send an inexperienced fuckup to a potential First Encounter situation?
Why would the ship in orbit have no crew to monitor ground operations and take action when they are cut off, instead leaving them to wait 17 days?

Weyland has money and clout to influence the military, the military didn't necessarily trust them, but the people in command wanted money.

They sent the green Lt. and a small detachment because the idea was that if things go south, they could either pay them off or have them killed, and nothing of value was lost.

Search me on that last one. Plot convenience.

>missing the point this hard
It's like you've never read Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" or something.

Weylad Yutani is the one with all the money and power. Also they didn't really believe there was anything wrong besides maybe a fucked up transmitter. The rest wo thought otherwise wanted the subjects brought back for bioweapons research.

>Why would they send an inexperienced fuckup to a potential First Encounter situation?
They were supposed to die. Burke was reliant on being able to walk all over Gorman so as to get any prospective specimens back to earth.
>Why would the ship in orbit have no crew to monitor ground operations and take action when they are cut off, instead leaving them to wait 17 days?
Why would you need them, from their perspective? Colonial marines have ostensibly encountered several alien species and had such little difficulty defeating them that a "bug hunt" is seen as frustratingly mundane. They followed procedures outlined for killing aliens, they just weren't prepared for an opponent that was smart enough to both identify their logistical vulnerabilities and slip past their defenses to strike specifically at the drop ship. Its like how the US doesn't have organic AAA, because who the fuck is going to have air superiority on us?

>Why would the Marines trust Weyland Yutani?
they dont, but its a WY colony and WY is a major military contractor
so they are forced to include their input
>Why would they send an inexperienced fuckup to a potential First Encounter situation?
WY deliberately wanted someone easily manipulated, so they could make off with a xeno
>Why would the ship in orbit have no crew to monitor ground operations and take action when they are cut off, instead leaving them to wait 17 days?
no explanation given, plot inconvenience

keep in mind aliens was a major satire of the vietnam war, where things can and did go belly up in ways as stupid as the CM did

It's a movie.

The main ship was obviously intelligent enough to be in charge of the journey there and go into orbit. What was a ship crew supposed to do; dust the floors while they waited for the shore team to return? Realize that such a ship crew would have required additional life support units while not really contributing to anything, as the shore unit already was supposed to have full comm with the main ship.

It is just a movie. What fascinates me that fully automatic cargo ships are already being made ready for deploy in our seas. This is no longer science fiction.

Are you implying that in the future the Marines will be less fuckups than they are today?

The Marines don't have a choice, they're following orders from their superiors, and their superiors are being paid off

Why didn't you post in /tv/

shes cute as shit

>Its like how the US doesn't have organic AAA, because who the fuck is going to have air superiority on us?
Theorically, the Chinese would stand a decent chance at gaining air superiority against the US in areas such as the South China Sea or Korea.

She's like 11 bro.

The movie is drawing from the society's consciousness of the Vietnam War. Notice how they have the technology and how they're so gung ho? Then they experience terror and defeat. They also pull out. Once you understand this, you will understand the movie. Enjoy.

doesnt mean shes not cute

I agree, but little girls tend to be deathly afraid of me.

The no crew on ship and wait till rescue does not seem farfetched at all. No crew because lol future tech replaces fob jobs. Cuts on cost, mhureens can survive and it saves us money. The cost to ship people in interplanetary voyages and service logistics is provably nothing to scoff at, as well as on demand rescue in a "covert" or quiet op that could be swept under the rug if shit went south.

>Why would the Marines trust Weyland Yutani?
Who says they did? They have influence with the government, and are one of the biggest colonizers/atmospheric processors for colonization, and these are the "Colonial Marines" implying they are tasked to operate in colonial situations exclusively
>Why would they send an inexperienced fuckup to a potential First Encounter situation?
Its like you never met an Lt before. Also for deniability and easy of covering it up if shit hits the fan
>Why would the ship in orbit have no crew to monitor ground operations and take action when they are cut off, instead leaving them to wait 17 days?
You could argue a small crew has a small footprint if things go sideways, but also, if they are terraforming and colonizing thousands of planets, but the colonies only have several hundred families, you need small forces to be spread out to be within distance of a given area, and potential opposition should be small, on a barren planet with 300 families, in reality what goes wrong? A psycho kills some people and takes hostages? They would probably act more like HRT in most cases with some better hardware for small insirgencies.

>thinking that's what they mean by bug hunt
In the aliens universe, the xenomorph is the only alien species ever discovered, which at that point the marines hand never encountered.
>"will this be a standup fight Sir, or another bug hunt?
Meaning hes asking if the opposition is using hit and run tactics, when the Lt. Says a "xenomorph may be involved" its saying, maybe something we dont know is involved, meaning it is for sure not a standup fight.

Is this that alium flick

There is no indication that they actually trust WY; they barely interact with Burke (who functions more as a McNamara pencil pusher fucking everyone ever in the 'Nam analogue). The Lt. was green, but the rest of the squad was experienced and everyone excluding Burke thought it was a low priority mission with a high likelihood of turning out to be nothing. Everything in the orbiting ship can remote commanded from the ground, and their deployment procedures had Gorman and Bishop separate from the rest of the squad, and the dropship crew at a third location away from combat.

If you read the tech readout lore book, the mission was sabotaged from the beginning to fail.

It was a purposefully under strength ship with subpar marines.

Those ships are small escort destroyers that usually roll in squadrons and each ship can carry a full company of marines, air support and vehicles.

Cool book that expands the universe and is still considered cannon

She aged like milk.

Other than the green LT, the rest of the Marines were pretty badass.

>In the aliens universe, the xenomorph is the only alien species ever discovered, which at that point the marines hand never encountered.

Actually no, in one of the novels they mention some pterodactyl looking shits that were mostly annoying vermin big and aggressive enough you needed to shoot them, but otherwise completely unintelligent in nature.

You misunderstand that movies "universe"

Corporations CONTROL ALL EXPLORATION.
(Read: Multi corps run by Boards who are staffed by Trillion dollar(adjusted dollars) jews)

you didn't need to show me this bro

Would bang still

Are you stupid? They mention fucking Arcturians at the beginning how how they not sexually dimorphic. They use the term "bug hunt" with the aliens implying they've encountered them before.

Attached: 1540431947727.jpg (253x310, 33K)

Add some thigh pieces for protection and That looks like a legit fucking get up for a space marine. (providing the operation is atmosphere available)

Give them an underwear/underarmor thermal layer to deal with the cold weather.

Why the fuck aren't they trying to replicate this?

>Why the fuck aren't they trying to replicate this?
Because the US military is absolutely incompetent in terms of putting RND into anything useful.

Arcturians are never said to be aliens, they could just be a whole colony planet of Thai boys.

I absolutely love the style and look of this combat gear, and aliens is a great movie, but no that would be really impractical.

Those shoulder mounted lamps would be a nightmare, the greaves are pointless if you're not fighting from behind a scutum, the fuckoff giant, hard armor shoulder straps make shouldering your weapon properly a constant problem, etc.

but yeah it looks rad as fuck though. The rebel outfits from Rogue One did a great job with the retro-future vietnam inspired gear too

lmao no

IIRC the unit was undermanned

Make all that shit that size..and Rifle round proof...and its instantly LEGIT as FUCK.

>rest of the Marines were pretty badass.

so we got 2 smartgun operators that ignore orders and open fire inside a nuclear reactor.

we got billy "Game over man" badass that has a breakdown (although points for final stand)

we got an LT that literally clams up under fire and has to have his squad taken over for him in the middle of a clusterfuck of a firefight where a heavily armed squad is somehow getting annihilated in hand to hand

special shout out to the air crew's stellar perimeter security and not realizing that there's an entire alien creature inside your own tiny dropship.

I mean I love the movie but that wasn't exactly the cream of the crop.

>Money
>Money
>Money
Glad I could clear that up for you

the armor is essentially the same set up you get in modern armor except the plate is naked and not inside cloth.

While the breastplate is supposed to be rated to stop like, a direct hit from a modern day .50 cal, most of the gear is meant to protect the marine from debris and tripping on shit. They mostly fight in urban terrain, inside spaceships, modules, colonies, and generally places made entirely out of metal that will turn into lots and lots of sharp, heavy things flying in all directions once shit kicks into gear. The shoulder pads and greaves make a bit more sense once you consider the dangers of collapsing floors and such.

Also the technical manual describes how the armor can be worn on top of a space suit for zero-G, no-atmosphere combat.

truth

Attached: 1535833186488.gif (440x248, 1.76M)

Fuck off with your logic.

>Why would they send an inexperienced fuckup to a potential First Encounter situation?
They were deliberately trying to get them killed. I don't remember why, but that is the actual reason why that guy was in charge.

>we got billy "Game over man" badass that has a breakdown (although points for final stand)
Hudson's character was the most believable out of them all. They never dealt with a Xenomorph, the Marines just got their shit pushed in hard. Now throw in that their only transport was lost right in front of them (which wouldn't be surprised if he was buds with those two pilots) he has every right to break down from that alone.

>They were deliberately trying to get them killed.
Some what.
I don't remember why, but that is the actual reason why that guy was in charge.
Ripley gave the report of what happen in the first movie. The acid blood, how quickly they reproduce, all the details they know. Weyland industries also manufactures weapons, so dick boy was gonna sabotage the Marine's cryo sleepers so they can't say shit, Ripley and the little girl were gonna be taken away after they got back to earth, the Xenomorph's inside them would be taken from them and turned into a weapon (which they tried in the 3rd movie)

>don't remember why, but that is the actual reason why that guy was in charge.*
Was suppose to be green text, my bad.

At least she didn't age in the movies

Oh wait

Dude why

Makes sense also to comment on the blatant Vietnam comparison. I get the hint that the marines are suppose to represent arrogant US military thinking firepower can win any battle but instead I see the perfect bio weapon. One that can soak up ammunition, create literal zerg rushes and generally survive like cockroaches. I don't see Vietnam at all. I see a biological weapon that could destroy any military.

>but instead I see the perfect bio weapon. One that can soak up ammunition, create literal zerg rushes and generally survive like cockroaches. I don't see Vietnam at all. I see a biological weapon that could destroy any military.

The commentary is in the Aliens being low tech and primitive foes that nevertheless win because of their ferocity, cleverness and determination.

They only win if you don’t nuke them. Same as nam.

The plot to get specimens back to Earth would have to be kept inside a small circle of people, compartmentalization kind of like 9/11 false-flag operation, the rest of the people who belong to the "machine" would know only what they need to know. In this case they only knew that something strange happened to a colony and they needed to check it out, so they gave a rookie a chance to get some experience without too much risk. They never expected Gods of Darwinism Aliens to attack them.

This also applies to the question regarding the ship being without a team to monitor the whole thing.

>They use the term "bug hunt" with the aliens implying they've encountered them before.
Bug hunt was just meant to be the future version of "wild goose chase". If they already knew what xenomorphs were then why the fuck would they need Ripley to explain to them what they are a few scenes later.

>If they already knew what xenomorphs were then why the fuck would they need Ripley to explain to them what they are a few scenes later.
Because they've encountered aliens before, but not xenomorphs. I mean shit, Ive encountered plenty of brown people before but still had to sit through hours of slideshows about afghan culture and customs before I deployed.

This. The ship was very smart and you just needed a powerful radio and some codes to work it in the movie.

Absolutely incorrect

If we believed this, we wouldn't be in either area. If China believed this, they would act on it.

I understand, the thing is xenomorph's are stronger, faster and more able to take damage than humans or any other life on earth. This doesn't have anything to do with the Vietnam war. These are giant fucking insects that kill everything in their path. Shit I would love to see the VC have to deal with xenomorphs being dropped in their tunnels. Game over man.

>Bug hunt was just meant to be the future version of "wild goose chase".
This.

facepalm.jpg

you have to be autistic- what the other poster is describing is a *metaphor* that absolutely was present in the movie, whether or not you relate the two things

>pic
I should probably go and ask /lit/ or someone, but actually, coming to think of it... Isn't capitalism always gonna lead to corporatism of some sort? I mean, since competition is a pretty big deal and much like in nature the winner often eats the loser. And the bigger you are, the more small fry you've got to nab, right?
So, if this goes on in that manner, wouldn't someone eventually become large enough to push and pull the government their way, or become a kind of 'government' in the absence of one? Doesn't the difference in power sort of put an end voluntary associations?

Considering how much shit has piled up into a few big businesses recently and how much influence they've got on US policy by lobbying... You know, the MIC, like cities and states are crawling on their fucking knees and emptying their pockets for Amazon, and like six corporations owning most of the media in the US, when thirty years of something ago it was spread out over fifty companies. Facebook is creating their own currency for fucks sake.
Unironically makes me think. Not kidding.

What's the metaphor? Is the movie seriously comparing giant almost indestructible hive mind insects that destroy ecosystems to communists? I can see that, sorry you are right.

corporatism is a result of other factors like the infrastructure and labor needs of a business by it's very nature but there's plenty of examples of markets where capitalism of small enterpreneurs exist unmolested, some luxury items like art, a guy selling his own vegetables at a local fair, the local repair shops, stores, taxi and bus lines, etc,

As we get closer to full automatization some services suffer and others benefit, internet-wise the tech giants we know now are only dominant because they've been the gate of entry to the digital era for the vast majority of people, and they've deliberatedly structured the online world to exist in continuity to their services and business interests, but this keeps proving to be unsustainable. Eternal growth can only exist in theory, Facebook for example reached a point past which the new users were not generating more revenue than the increase in costs, and it's been on a steady decline since, as people grow sick and bored of the site. Youtube has been working at a loss for almost a decade now. Twitter is barely scrapping by. And there's basically nothing these people can do to actually grow their companies any further, there just isn't any more money out there to earn, their coverage and access is already tapped out. What i think we'll see is a process of deconsolidation as tech giants break up into more sustainable businesses to shed the non-productive parts of their infrastructure, and also a shift towards more free-floated federated networks now that Bitchute and Gab have taken the plunge.

>Shit I would love to see the VC have to deal with xenomorphs being dropped in their tunnels. Game over man.
shut up burke
its like no one learns

Listen Ripely, you keep talking shit and imma reprogram bishop to do things to you. The xenomorph is the premier urban pacification weapon.

>Listen Ripely, you keep talking shit and imma reprogram bishop to do things to you.
Still a better love story than twilight.

because hes one of those anons whos afraid of going to boards other than the ones he frequents.

I was hoping this thread would discuss the gear, doctrine and IRL counterparts to USCM shit
