I bought this helmet almost a decade ago for 20 bucks at a gun show. It does not look American and it's still in good shape with no rust but chipping paint and chipping primer. Any ideas about restoring this and what type of helmet it may be.
Sidenote its like 3 to 4 lb, has the riveted metal band holding the leather inside. The helmet outline does not look familiar, like German or American to me. But I'm probably wrong and have no clue I have and no clue what I need to restore it.
Do I sand or grind the helmet's paint and primer. There's like a good three to four layers of paint. Thanks for the Cerakote idea.

Just find someone who does sandblasting, shouldn't be more than $15.

Sounds reasonable thanks

Czechoslovakian Vz53. The German-style leather liner is a dead giveaway - Soviet helmets used a far more primitive oilcloth lining.

Vz53 and SSh39 are almost identical with the 3 pin design, the only difference I see is the helmet lining, if its original and the height of the helmet. You're probably right. If only I can find any markings on the helmet it would be so easy.
