These two know their shit. 30-06/308 for stopping power, .223/6,5 for range. 22lr/17hmr for cheap mass-training ammo.
But those are general hunting applications. You get specialized ammo for specialized hunting. I would not go for bears with 223, and 17hmr is a bit weak for rabbits..
There is no best cartridge. You dont have one tool in a toolbox.

If you want 30-06 go near moose/elk season. Its the go-to for all things bigger than deer for most hunters.

I use 6,5x55 for long range hunting because its flat, cheap and stops game like a champ.

.308 drops faster than .30-06 dipshit, .308 has less recoil, and fit into a short action bolt gun.... It's not much of a difference in drop, but the -06 does stay supersonic at a longer distance and has the ability to shoot heavier projectiles at a higher MV

I mean I guess. That they left out the fact that 30-06 is only as good or better than .308 is when an experienced hand loader makes them so. By saami specs, 30-06 has a lower max pressure and the same bullet selection, so you're not going to get factory ammo that performs better. With hand loads, you can squeeze better velocities with heavier bullets out. But really at that point you may as well just go for .300 win mag.

It's not technically incorrect but is disingenuous. if we're talking saami specs, .308 is just a shorter 30-06 with slightly higher pressure. If you know your action and load, you can load the same or heavier projectiles at a higher muzzle velocity (usually within 200fps) but ballistically speaking there is no inherent practical difference

.30-06 has potential for more power and heavier bullets. other than this newer rounds tend to be superior these days but everything is always a trade off. look at all the nosler rounds. peak performance in each caliber but barrel life and recoil are compromises

3006 is pointless. Even with handloads making the difference between it and 308 noticiable you run into big dick 300 win mag in the same action size launching everything 3006 does way faster. There's nothing on earth you'd want 30 06 for that 308 won't do more handily or 300wm won't do further away.

The point wasn't that you can't make 30-06 more powerful than 308 under the right conditions. It's that if you wanted more power than .308 you would be better served going with 300 win mag
